Wow.  That's got to be one of the rarest cars on AS, and an absolute dream find...looks like it's been stored pretty dry.

Wow.  Just wow.

So that's the car the Brat was based on then?  Have to admit to knowing next to nothing about Subarus beyond a friend having a 1.8DL estate on a D plate and thinking it was a fascinatingly odd car...plus it sounded absolutely epic.

One of them is definitely on my List, though I don't reckon it's ever one I'll tick off given they're basically extinct due to rust.

It's here!

Overall quite happy with it. A few areas need attention but it seems to be solid at first glance.

I've yet to get it on the ramp so we'll see how solid it is soon enough.

Nothing there to trouble a gent with your talents!

If the repairs to the rear wheel arch and the front wing date back to when this was still on the road it really does go to show why Japanese cars back then had such a bad rep for rust given it would have been only have been six years old when it was parked up.

Guess it could be from someone attempting at some point to start reviving it too, hard to say.

That Subaru is excellent!

This shot might give you an idea of where to look for rot:

1981 Subaru 1600 DL-5 OAM 681X (1997/98)

It lasted a whole eight years on the road, this is what it looked like after a further 8-9 years in a scrapyard.

That's super cool, is it saveable?  Doesn't look too bad considering it's been parked up almost as long as I've been alive, the paintwork and interior especially look to be in amazing condition.

Tax and MOT exempt innit!

Just need to get it running and I can drive it without even changing the tyres.

Win. That's such a cool brown with grey inside. Love it.

Are these old Subaru 4x139.7 or some similar oddness?

Yes, the common thing is to mod the hubs to 6x139 and fit a vast array of jap pickup wheels 15" upwards. Wheel choice is quite limited but I do have a set of XT alloys I could fit.

Not sure what's worse, the boy not having a concept of 'Stop' as the van goes on the trailer, or the boy who thinks he could redirect the van with his arm on the wing.

FFS 😂

It was all poorly co-ordinated, I just stood back and filmed it as it happened. Fortunately this old shitter isn't for me although there is a rusty Pilot van down the side of the garage I might buy.

Quite a productive day here on my own. I've removed the engine and front seats from the BX so it can now go off to the scrapyard.

Still trying to decide if it's worth taking anything else from the car such as the tacho clocks...

Switchgear looks decent, the legends tend to rub off them so probably worth grabbing, instrument cluster probably if it's got a tach.

I'd have the rear power window switches (they're the same as the front ones on a Mk I and one of mine is stuffed).  No idea how hard to get off the handbrake pull handle is, but if it isn't a pain I'd have that - mine looks like a dog has used it as a chew toy.

I'd have the rear seat as well if you weren't at the far end of the country so getting it here would be a huge faff.

To be honest any bits of interior plastic are probably worth saving for a specialist/marque enthusiast if they're not cracked as they were all pretty brittle even when new.  Sadly that doesn't necessarily mean they're worth enough to be worth the time stripping yourself though, which is always the curse of this situation I think.

Still, he'd quite like to see you bent over the front of a Toyota Carina, so it's not all bad.

Not necessarily as creepy as it sounds, Maybe he just really loves calendars and wants Scott to be his Mr January?

Oh right, As you were.

What a fucking tube!

Yes, the only reason I'm bringing up this shit now is because he has reported a post on this thread from 2019 with a photo of him saying he's a twat. Clearly he has too much time on his hands if he's reading through this thread.
