billy_bunter Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 ^ 3 self tappers per door was standard They could be original. Ford did not worry about knots etc.
Shite Ron Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 The wheels look to be correct offset to me, although obviously too modern for the car. Fiesta Supersport wheels are the same as Cortina X pack wheels and were used for 205 tyres. Steel sports wheels are also good with 185 tyres. I like Cortina’s a lot and if I had to have just one car it would undoubtedly be a Cortina. Mk4’s are the best looking (without the snowplough option!) 5speedracer Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 These are used in Junior Tractor Pulling competitions. Better than the new ones apparently.I remember the excitement when my gardener dad's work got one of these for the 1971 summer.Sent from my R19 using Tapatalk
CortinaDave Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Nice! A steal at 1500 quid. They all need welding, and it'll look tons better with all the crap removed (although I like the window louver!)
sierraman Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 It wants all that tat stuck to it binning, what’s gone on with the plasterboard screws holding the door trim on. If the body’s fairly solid it’s worth restoring well they’re a rare motor those Mk4.
cort1977 Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 As a fellow purple Cortina owner I really like this. Think some Sierras had wheels like that? Late XR4 maybe? Totally agree on removing all undesired tat but if you can be arsed some of that might find another misguided buyer on ebay, not just the louvre.
CortinaDave Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Spoiler is rare/worth money if you're taking it off.

The sapphire cosworth had wheels very similar but they'd be bigger than whats on it I'd think.

Worth a bit of coin these days, I think the replacements would have to be slotmags if I was lucky enough to own this Cortina!

cort16 Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 Looks much better without that front spoiler . I don’t those where ghia door cards hence why it looked a bit weird
Mr Laurence Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 What a huge improvement that’s made already! Is the purple paint the original colour? I’ve only ever seen it on much older Cortinas
Shite Ron Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 That is a huge improvement. It looks like you have the correct front valance which is a nice bonus. Many mk4’s have a mk5 valance fitted like on my S above which then need the 4 holes welding up to look right, a job I need to get round to. Get all the tat on ebay for a few quid in the bank, as others have said it is amazing what people will pay for a Louvre! DodgyBastard 1
garbaldy Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 Oof much want from here although I've always preferred the mk5.

Like how every surviving mk1 Fiesta in 1990 had mk2 tailgates fitted, The mistake a few cortina owners have made in the past is buying mk5 doors for a mk4 Looks great until you try to close it. What year did they suddenly decide the series 80 was actually a mk5 ? The ‘Cortina 80 ‘ was launched late in 1979, the press cars were T registered as often seen in the Professionals, sadly none are known to survive. There are many V reg mk4’s, as many people would have wanted the latest plate as soon as it came out. I have a Vreg mk4 although I always think they don’t look right on a V reg. The Cortina 80 was commonly referred to as a mk5 as there were so many improvements/differences over the mk4 including a higher roof which you notice when running both as I used to hit my head getting in a mk4. The mk5 seems to drive so much better and is great as an everyday car, I honestly have not driven a more comfortable car. The mk3,4 and 5 all have the same floor pan, sills and chassis. Gas shocks and quality suspension bushes make a huge difference to ride. I currently only have mk4’s road legal due partly to the free tax. I also think mk4’s are the best looking but do love all Cortina’s. I am very glad Ford gave a new name to the replacement, it was a different car, too different to carry the Cortina name. It is a shame they did not do the same with the Granada in 1985 and rename it a Scorpio. danthecapriman, Amishtat and Asimo 3

Just to confuse matters more, the estate version of the Mk 5/Cortina 80 was just a facelift of the Mk4: the '79-on saloon got a whole new glasshouse, but the estate just gained bigger bumpers, side rubbing strips and the Mk5 nose. Glass and doors stayed the same as those on 1976 cars. Ask me how I know... garbaldy and Shite Ron 2
garbaldy Posted July 11, 2020 Posted July 11, 2020 You wouldn't think I've had a good few cortinas would you as I didn't even know that at all and I've had all models except the mk3 which just happens to be my favourite one. Datsuncog 1
