since a jaguar is out cos they are stupidly low, how about a big jap such as a lexus i400(?) which is the big boxy one. would one of those be easier to get in and out of?

failing that, how abour a jap SUV. there must be one which is common in automatic flavour? honda crv, or an early x-trail?

as other posters have said, i'm sorry to hear about your health issues.

i'm 41 and am having a few creaking joint moments, i'm fat too which doesn't help.at work we've got a young kid, Leon he is 22. i tell him frequently not to get old, as it sucks!

Dammit. I had a working BW35 you could have had. Got in a job lot and still have a couple of props.

Dai Brace at Classic Swede would be able to advise.

Does the Avantime come with an autobox?

That's a good point, you won't be in pain if you buy a car with zero chance of being driven anywhere.

Why no Aldi Allroad? Higher, higher, lower, lower etc. Because air suspension etc. And not Citroen.

Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee.

Seats like sofas and a rather nice straight six four litre.

What's not to like?

Mercedes S class. Full on massaging seats, air suspension, waftomatic.

W124 Merc would be ideal. My back regarded the seats as much more comfortable than those in a Rover 75.

Some Jeeps in the price range  but I can't recall much about potential issues. Omegas, also in price range but older model/newer model, what to watch out for. I know stuff about the cars I have but these are out of my comfort zone.

I could waffle on for England about small Triumphs but.....

I'm sure some kind of Autoshite Express could be arranged...

Whats this about a filter that needs changing and is a trans/engine out jobbie? That don't appeal.

I think the diffs can be an issue, but I've had a couple of Grand Cherokees and didn't have a problem.

The ball joints are a press fit though, and can be expensive to replace.

Lovely big old waffly things.

Chain driven engine FTW.

When I was looking at a Cherokee, the issue that people hammered home repeatedly was, look for rust.  Specifically, look for it in the vicinity of the fuel tank/boot floor/back axle.  Seems it can get bad enough to break the car's back.  Find one that's good in those areas and you should be well away.  They're not all that big inside but comfy.

XJ Cherokees are fantastique. Plus you can pretend to be MARCUS TANDY from hit BBC TV series BUGS.

Thought about a Chrysler Voyager? Many cheap ones seem to be 3.3 autos, easy enough to haul yourself into, maximum waftobargeomatic and cool looks too, whats not to like? I would. Here's one with LPG inall for a £5er less than a bag of sand:

Voyager was very high on my list too.  Tetleysmooth knows all about them, I've nearly bought at least two he's had.

Nice but a bit too bulky, something still car-like is ok. Bet it is as comfy as hell though.

Jeeps.

Grand Cherokee much better than Cherokee. 4.0 six is strong. Exhaust manifolds crack - stainless ones available for under £100. Rear diff can misbehave - they need special additives or they can be genuinely horrible. Centre viscous coupling is often shot - try driving in a circle and listen for clanks and rattles From the front diff.

WJ GCs often shit heater blend motors. Kits are available to replace but it isn't something you'd want to do.

Avoid the diesel.

Now watching a couple of cars. Rover 75 saloon and a Rover 45 in a very nice spec. Also another Rover option to consider.

Who said that we just go in circles :)

Beetle now on it's way to Suffolk via Essex. Nice to meet you Michael. Love the Jaaaaag.

I like the Voyagers I had.

The red one I sold to Aldo had a knocking coming from the front end. I thought it was a balljoint, but not long after Aldo bought it, the suspension top mount let go. Apparently a weak spot on these. I'd never have sold it if I'd known.

Autoboxes suspect too. Not the best out there. The box on the red one had just been rebuilt.

Excellent 3.3 engine though. Unkillable.

If you liked the Beetle could you find one in Heather Mills spec?

How about one that's not a bit different.

My sister has a 2003 Suzuki Swift. It is a bit ordinary but has some redeming features.

It is small and very ecumenical even in auto form

4 speed auto for the hills, I can pass other cars on fairly steep hills (Kaimai ranges actually and quite a hard climb)

The seats are surprisingly high and it is easy to access

quite comfortable too.

nippy and capable of motorway speeds

short wheelbase means a bit pitchy on rough roads, but not bad .

4 doors and room inside for the family

etc etc

Not exactly stylish and people will look in pity not lust

Worth a look at and maybe the Chevrolet version for extra laughs

Never mind the car mate, I want the car port!

That Bug is the 2.0 litre engine, supposed to be a bit more problematic. I shall have a look-see.

The MILF I'm seeing at the moment has a Heather-spec beetle rag top, goes ok actually.
