Tata Loadbeta... Bought and Pics!

£100 on a classic policy. The suspension will be sorted soon, it's on adjustable coilovers so raising it shouldn't be an issue...

Grey imports costing loads to insure is one of those urban myths I think. They really don't seem to cost much if any more than native stuff.

I would have been happy with either. When are you selling it to me then?

Posted

I wish that Alfa was a Lancia Beta in that picture, that would have been an even better pairing.  Does this mean you/someone you know has bought the Loadbeta?

Would like to see pictures of the loadbeta towing that caravan. I might have a trouser accident.

I'm thinking olive drab paint with a roller after the welding is done!

That looks utterly grim.  Well done.

Does it have the daft little hazard switch of the early ones, or the later Montego switchgear?

Tata is absolute class, love that.

Are you going to let Frankie Boyle out of the back at any point?

Fantastically grim. That engine has a whiff of XUD about it. Therefore it must be really powerful.

Posted

I think the engines in these are an indian copy of an XUD. theres a lad on the blue forum with (I think) an XUD-engined kitcar, he robbed a head and manifold of one of these and fitted it to his peugeot engine to help fit it longitudinally!! No idea if any key parts on the Tata version are made out of paneer though, seems quite likely that some would be.

That red one looks extremely benz like

There was a pic doing the rounds on FB with one of these fitted with a, presumably, 190E merc grille - it looked well- someone shared it on my page or whatever, as I used to have a 190E...

That cambelt cover is very XUD, but I don't think the rest of it is.

The cc suggests it's an Indenor with a cobbled up OHC head.

Get some of that down its (filler) neck.

Having driven it around 70 miles i can tell you its actually quite nice if you compare it with driving an old tractor. Mechanically sound, the engine runs nicely but the bodywork and giffer repairs let it down. I'd go as far as saying it has better build quality than the jumbuck.

That top pic looks like a still from "Children of Men", capital work!!
