As far as I am aware there are two Doctors. Derin who loves old BMW stuff and the other one in Witney who does low mileage porridge. I happen to know both, particularly Deh Witney Doctor. 

 

I thought Derin (who is not a Dr) got a pretty rough ride here a year or so ago.

Lots of people/things get mentioned on here, I wouldn't worry about it. If he can screw a decent living out of seeking out/polishing up some old cars, then it's probably only jealousy that leads us to moan about it.

I have obviously missed the references to him, but there is a doctor who is very fond of BMWs and Mercedes cars, buys good low mileage examples then cleans it up and fixes any shortcomings. When he has finished, he then sells the car on for a lot of money. He is a big poster on Piston Heads, where he seems to have a following. The cars are seriously mint - they certainly are in the photos. There is a small market for such cars, but it does exist.

 

He joined Autoshite, I think expecting people to admire how lovely the cars look - which they do. Instead, he was lambasted for tarting up old chod, then wanting ridiculous amounts of money for them.

 

I didn't take part in the 'discussion', but thought it was unfair. I could well see the cars selling for big money, since old BMWs and Mercedes have a following and there is always someone willing to pay good money for a really nice one - which these cars were. Besides, he did actually sell them, so the point is self-evident - and I couldn't see anything wrong in wanting good money for a really nice car. 

 

Unfortunately, he responded with a rather supercilious tone, which didn't win him many friends.

 

It was quite some time ago - at least as far back as 2012. It's one of those Autoshite moments best left in the past!

The Doctor (1) is the guy from Shrops who does old BMW stuff. Met his once, very pleasant guy, obv. plenty of dollars and put a lot of time and $$$ into making nice cars mint.

 

The Doctor (2) is someone I've known for about 25 years. David something or other. Had a D reg BX 1.9 Diesel estate when I first knew him, always fucking about with old stuff, Minis etc. He now has George Harrison's BMW 3.0CS, LYR11K.
