Six-cylinder Posted April 24, 2024 Author Posted April 24, 2024 A different flavour today. The Rolls Royce came out of storage today and to get it out I had to move the Peugeot 404 that started with a jump. I also needed to move the Renault 4, but the knob to open the bonnet feels loose and is not opening the catch, anybody know how to get the bonnet open? Because I could not move the Renault 4 I moved thed Citroen DS instead and it started fine with a jump. The Rolls Royce would not start and I diagnosed petrol, took the top off the vacuum fuel pump to find it was dry. I then took the DS for a ride home to collect a can of petrol. I put a couple of Litres of petrol in the pump reservoir and it started, then I could here the vac pump working. egg, LightBulbFun, chaseracer and 13 others 16

Six-cylinder Posted April 26, 2024 Author Posted April 26, 2024 The reason I got the Rolls Royce out yesterday was to see if we could lubricate the spigot bearing and and stop the drag on the gearbox to reduce the crunch noise going into gear. My friend Rolls Royce Ian took the floorboards up and the access panel off to reveal the front of the gearbox shaft. Revolving the shaft so the pinhole oil point was visible for a small shot of oil from a squirt can. The oil hole leads to an oilway in the saft. Trouble is there is no way of knowing if the tiny oilway is blocked. The result was no change and it crunches going into gear when stationary because the gearbox input shaft still spins even with the clutch pressed. The last picture is Ian's 20/25 and his Humber. Six-cylinder Posted April 27, 2024 Author Posted April 27, 2024 Today’s plan was to take the Rolls Royce to a Classic car breakfast meeting, however it was raining and cold. The Rolls has no heater or demister and the wiper only touches the screen when it feels like it. Plus the Rolls would have been filthy after the 30 mile trip so I took the Volvo 940. Only about 1/4 of the usual number of cars turned due to the weather. Afterwards as it had stopped raining Colin suggested we did a bit of work on our cars at the FoD. He spent some time treating rust spots on his Mercedes 450 SLC and then jacked up my Mini to straighten the front valance. By 3pm we were frozen to the marrow in late April. You planning on going to the meet down at Aspley Guise tomorrow? I'm hoping to head over, and if you're going to be there I'll take the axle stands with me.

If so I am planning to join that.
