Nexen Tyres

Firestones, Nankangs and Nexens and Kamas can all be slung on the bonfire as far as I'm concerned. The only decent budget tyres I've encountered are GT Radial Champiros.

My C2 came with one nexen and some other mis-matched no brand shite on the other three.

It was comically bad - frankly dangerous. Im not talking about taking backroads at 90+, I mean following a boggo Scenic round a damp roundabout in town and just sliding straight on while all other cars were going round it faster with no bother.

The local tyre place used to be pretty much nexus only. They have survived pretty well on the 220 coupé. Not had any grip issues, unlike the so called mid range Pirelli made ones before that were credo in the wet and lasted about half the time.

So general consensus is some of you think they're OK and others think they are rubbish so its a case of just see how it goes?

A Nexen Maxxis sounds like a Chinese built Sherpa LDV Van LOL

Theoretically insurance companies could void a claim if you had non-spec tyres, i.e. different size or speed loading, but has it ever happened?

The ones I've got are the correct (or same as was fitted from new) speed and load rating, in this case 88V XL so thats not an issue.

Tyreleader.co.uk has Hankook and Kumho in that size at £58.89 and £49.39 (plus your fitting cost). Or Michelin Energy Saver -- which are worth the extra if you're keeping them cos they'll do 50k+ -- for 86.69.

Have I just logged onto pistonheads by accident?

I HAVE GOODYEAR ON MY BRAND NEW BMW X6 COUPE. THEY ARE THE ONLY TYRE YOU SHOULD HAVE. IF YOU PUT ANYTHING ELSE ON YOU WILL DIE! HERE IS A PICTURE OF MY BMW X6 COUPE OUTSIDE MY EXECUTIVE HOUSE WHERE EVEN THE EN SUITE BATHROOMS HAVE EN SUITE BATHROOMS! AS I EARN MORE THAN YOU, I AM QUALIFIED TO KNOW MORE THAN YOU ABOUT EVERYTHING, DESPITE ME HAVING LESS DISPOSABLE INCOME THAN SOMEONE ON BENEFITS, AS ALL MY MONEY GETS SPENT ON MY EXECUTIVE HOUSE AND BMW X6 COUPE. I PAY FOR MY FLASHY HOLIDAYS ON CREDIT CARDS, IF I DON'T MY WIFE WILL LEAVE ME. I am desperately lonely and unhappy.

Mrs Case has just had a pair of Uniroyal Rainsport 3s on the front  slightly larger than yours but the same rating and an A rating for wet grip :). Early days, but they seem to do what it says on the tin and at £63 a corner they seem worth the slight extra; the el cheapo Chinese alternatives had a distinctly narrower tread for the same size tyre. BTW Uniroyal are owned by continental, the barcode labels on the new tyres were identical :o

We do seem to have the same, "chinese ditchfinders versus premium tyres" discussion every couple of weeks... Better than discussing banger racers or politics, I suppose.

I picked up some cheap part worn Michelin's for the 75 the other week, perfectly good tyres with loads of tread and cost something stupid like £60 all fitted.

New Budgets would of cost somewhere in the region of £180 all fitted.

Most Budgets are fine, unless you want to drive like an A3 knob,  but always worth enquiring about any decent part worns as I found out.

Most budget tyres are ok and offer GVFM, unless you want to drive like Lewis Hamilton, in which case you'll need to spend twice as much on Continentals or Michelin's.

There are decent budget tyres out there, granted. Champiros and Falkens (mid-range, admittedly) are well worth the coin, as are certain Maragonis and Hankooks.

Thing is, I don't drive like a Pistonheads 'true enthusiast', and I can spot a crap budget tyre a mile off. Remember, inverted snobbery rules (or at least it does when this forum feels on occasion like disappearing up its own arse). People who shrug the decent brands off as 'expensive crap' are either looking in the dearest place they can to reinforce their viewpoint, or have such a low reference point to begin with that they've never driven anything that behaves properly.

The C4 gets Michelins not because I drive like a tit, but because they last longer than any other tyre I've had on it. 52k on the fronts is pretty good going, would you not agree? Worst were the Nankangs, which shot the ride to shit, were crap in the wet and wore out at 13k. VALUE!

You buy the best tyres and brakes you can afford, particularly the former. Those who spend it on polish instead need their bumps feeling (in my opinion). I cringe whenever I see a car scrubbed to within an inch of its life on the cheapest new boots the owner could find. Priorities, yo. Opinions, WHOOAH.

Barum are a good choice if you can get a deal on them. Made by Continental...Really grippy with a decent life.

I have four matching Continentals on the 944 and four matching Barums on the Scirocco.

And I have been known to occasionally* drive like a twat.

I am happy with the cheap tyres on the lightweight car.

*obviously when every single other road user was at home tucked up in bed.
