Stupid SORN shenanigans?

An odd situation today:

 

Tried to declare a SORN on line using the new keeper supplement- website says to call DVLA or go to post office.

 

Went to post office- "we can't SORN using the new keeper supplement anymore, you'll need to call the DVLA"

 

Called the DVLA

 

"As the new keeper you cannot SORN using the slip, you need to wait for the v5c to be delivered to you, and then either SORN (backdated to 1st Jan likely) or tax"

 

I asked about the gap (from me buying it til the "backdated" 1st Jan) and was told "Don't worry sir, that will not be an issue."

 

 

Has anyone else experienced this? seems rather odd, as under the old system you could SORN it straight away on the new keeper supplement.

Had exactly the same too but it was Mrs Shrimp trying to sort it. In the end we just back dated it

That's just typical of the doovla, one minute they tell you you must tax a new purchase the moment you think about buying it but its ok to wait upto 4 weeks before sorning it.
