philibusmo Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 And what's the next best thing to hydro pneumatic? That's right hydagas! If only someone had suggested a car with that suspension set up...
dollywobbler Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 If only they'd made hydragas self-levelling.
Lacquer Peel Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Leaf springs are ideal for load carrying, that's why a Nissan Serena would be best*.
messerschmitt owner Posted December 26, 2014 Author Posted December 26, 2014 Adjustable headlamps sorts the angle of the vehicle problem. And no to something that wouldn't cope with 20000 miles a year minimum
Honey Badger Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Subaru Legacy/Outback estate sounds Ideal for this kinda thing, Accord Estate is supposed to be quite good for space as well with the very square back end. Both will be horrendous on fuel. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-52-Reg-Subaru-Legacy-Outback-3-0-H6-Lux-Pack-auto-Outback-/311178644136?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4873b14aa8
Ghosty Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Old Espace with a V6 and some seats taken out?
Pillock Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 The princess is self-levelling It picks a level all by itself. That's sort of the same thing.
MarvinsMom Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 OE parts preferably....I've got a friend restoring the original Project Pride and its in the body shop right now. sadly the bits we've got are for the austin and not the rover metro, and i cannot think of anyone straight off who have any rover bits. even the local breakers now seem to only breaking up R100's too.
messerschmitt owner Posted December 26, 2014 Author Posted December 26, 2014 Even if the princess came with a free ride on princess Kate I'd still not want it, especially if it's a 2200. Bloody thirstier than gazza at a free bar.
cort16 Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 BMW 530d estate sorry tourer. . Go pre 2000 for no swirl flaps and fancy bollocks. For better mpg look at the 525 tds. They drive great and are big in the back
skattrd Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Posted by Twiggy on the tat thread: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-940-TD-AUTO-ESTATE-PETROL-NO-RESERVE-99P-START-/291335264489?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item43d4ef58e9
Asimo Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I like Hydragas but it is useless for loads, it is the exact opposite of self levelling, very poor pitch stiffness. But you weren't going to go there were you? The older these are the better they are
twosmoke300 Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Princess has enough of a job holding its own weight up let alone a boot full of stuff too.
dieselnutjob Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 our 806 has been ace for this kind of thing, ours has done 230000 miles and you never see a rusty one
messerschmitt owner Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 our 806 has been ace for this kind of thing, ours has done 230000 miles and you never see a rusty onei have the less refined high top version. It's at 205000 miles and climbing. I love the 2.0hdi but I would like a more refined and economical cruiser for those times when I go to a show on my own. Nothing beats an Xm estate but I now want a change. Tell me about e series merc estates and their pitfalls - apart from rust ...For sale advert for two xms coming soon. They will be cheap.
skattrd Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Worldofceri had one he sold to Lord Sterling that had a few issues ... there's a thread somewhere Tell me about e series merc estates and their pitfalls - apart from rust ...
messerschmitt owner Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 Not a w124, the gopping headlight model that replaced it.
bub2006 Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Don't touch an e200. Woefully underpowered and not enough guts to get out its own way. Mid to high teens no matter how it was drove, pulling out of junctions was a point an pray excercise. Was comfy inside though but strangely not as wide as the vectra we have now. Our was a 2.0 elegance. Electric drivers seat but no air con or leather. Five speed auto box and smallest available engine do not go well together. I would like to try the e300 diesel though
messerschmitt owner Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 It won't be a petrol car
bub2006 Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Well what I said was pretty much irrelevant!
Guest Lord Sward Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 E-Klasse Mercs rip the coil spring holders from the chassis legs due to corrosion. SHITE.
Asimo Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 After a succession of heroic Volvo 740 Diesels estates my clock-dealing neighbour "moved up" to Merc E series V6 Diesel. He soon stopped bothering to clean it (rust), fix it (cost) and then drive it at all (more rust). After growing moss under the hedge for the last two of it's eleven years, he has just scrapped it.
Ghosty Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 The older these are the better they are How about this then?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1989-AUDI-100-AVANT-5-CYLINDER-SILVER-RUNS-AND-DRIVES-BARN-FIND-/161519519841?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item259b504861
