Any interest in some kind of track day next year?

Are you going to invite full throttle cottle to show us how its done ?

If we have problems with old tat on the run up to the big day can a modern be substituted.

I've done Blyton, it is a properly surfaced track on an airfield so you are less likely to have a big off there.

It's not that far from York iirc.

I can remember vividly getting gt3 and royally fucking the game up by squandering all my winnings trying to get the Daihatsu Sirion I had purchased to 200hp.

Knockhill £4000 for a morning, or £200 each if 20 confirm. Stupid question alert: Who takes the lap times and how do we know who has done how many laps etc? Or, won the race

Posted

I think timing your laps creates a problem with insurance cover - all the track days I've been on have carried the threat of expulsion if they catch you doing it.

How much did Retro-Rides have to pay for Haynes Motor Museum? We were doing laps around there. Timing definitely does have issues as it becomes a Motor Sport Association thing - and a rather large ball-ache. RR ignored such things for a few years. They've done sessions at Prescott and Shelsley Walsh since. Not sure they've timed the runs though?

Track sessions at Rockingham are pretty cheap - £35 for a taster session.

Shame I wad hoping to set a lap time with standard car then improve on car and take it back!

So for our four or so thousand pounds will someone at least say who wins, comes second etc?

Posted

Rockingham suits. If we got enough folk together we might be able to go out in our own shite group.

if you want to time your run then setup a dashcam and film it, the timer on the vid will let you know how fast you were.

You are not supposed to race or record lap times on track days.

£200 for a morning seems expensive. The most I paid at Cadwell was £129 for a full day open pit lane.

Posted

I'd be up for something if it was somewhere within daytrip radius of East Anglia. I'm planning to do some thoroughly stupid mods to my Audi.

That said, a trackday in the Rover would be hilarious and probably fatal.

Posted

skattrd, did you have exclusive use of the track? I can get on croft next month for £129 but with everybody else in their high powered shizz too

Posted

No, that was an open pit lane track day. I've never been on an exclusive use day.

You don't really notice too much of the high powered shit on a  decently organsiied day. Theres not too many cars on track at once so there's enough space, they pass you on the straight and carry on. I've only done track days before in my little Daihatsu which was probably the slowest thing (on the straights) on track and I didn't feel intimidated.

Doesn't Croft have stupidly low noise limit?

105db compared to Doningtons 98- 118 db depending of its a race day or quiet day.

So where is everyone and how far are you all willi g to travel, and what is the most you'd pay for track use.

I'm North Yorks, willing to travel anywhere within Europe and happ to pay up to £250 for the right venue

Also should we loom to book and py for this end Feb when Christmas I over and done with, or are you not bothered?

Croft Monday 1st December. Open pit lane, £129.

Anyone? Might take the Monza, see what its like on a circuit. Far from ideal being Auto

Posted

I'll be in the foreign on that date, so I'm out.

Posted

Standard open pitlane means come and go on track as and when you please.

The last one I did the briefing was at 8am, track time started at 8:30am and finished at 17:00. This all depends on light etc.

I did find though towards the end of the day I was mentally fried, it's hard work driving hard on track. I left my last one before the day had finished because I was finished and had to drive home. I would not do a long drive home after a day on track.

1st of Dec, probably no for me.

Any rules about needing safety gear, helmets, extinguishers etc?

Being lazy, I'd be up for Donington or Mallory since I live probably halfway between the two.

Posted

Safety equipment, helmets yes, nothing else as far as I'm aware, but double check before going.

Take as much petrol as possible. It is usually available at most circuits but expensive. I took 2x 20l jerry cans plus a full tank last time I went and had to fill up on the way home.

Posted

Temperature: Cold - really cold. Need helmet, can be rented by track. 25 mun drive from my hone. Very much doubt I would do 8am - 5pm. Especially doubt the car would either. Might do a morning and report back.

Posted

It's about an hour from me and sounds good but I want an official autoshite track day with the exclusive use.

Also need time to buy something with test to use

Definitely on the cards for next year. Just I fancy Croft in December. Managed to score the time off work!

Bumping this one back up, but having just looked up the car list in Gran Turismo 5 and seen a Mk3 3.0S Capri on there, sign me up for something next year when it's fixed! A shite-filled track day would be utterly hilarious.

Posted

I'm planning to go to Rockingham on the 13th in the MX-3 if anyone fancies it. £159 for the day.

Posted

I would love to do this but I'm a bit disappointed when someone said it's not a race and you can't time anything. Other than a bit of hooning it seems a bit pointless

Posted

But you can overtake people and use a stopwatch on your phone. Plus you get to drive your car as fast you can without losing your license.

Races are races, that's why you need MSA accreditation. There should be a production car racing series allowing the most basic of safety mods, a fixed power and weight limit and a set tyre type.

Posted

Indeed. Being able to hurl your car around with no concerns about other road users or breaking the law is hugely addictive, even without timing. Even if you drive a 2CV.

At Rockingham on the 13th, you can pay just £30 online for a taster session - a rather milder track session for beginners. This is what Dugong's colleagues did last time I was there. I was mucking about on the skid pan instead but I wish I'd done a session now.

I'd love to do another track day. Last did one about seven years ago in my Alfa 145 which was one if the slower cars on track but it was massive fun.

Now that's something I want to do! What's the score with that? Are you able to dick about in whatever you turn up in or is it a by backhand arrangement affair?
