Anyone know stuff about vans?

Depends on the van and the 4x4! Land Rovers with the ability to use low ratio on the road (i.e. with a centre diff) can generally tow up to 3500 kg, but 4x4s which can't seem to be around 2000 to 2500 kg maximum towing weight. My LT can pull 2500 kg, but it is slow on hills at that sort of weight. Nicely stable though, as I guess the long wheelbase helps.

I had said no to these but does anybody know anything about the Merc T1?

Have seen a 209d with the 3.0 n/a diesel. I'm normally anti diesel but Wikipedia informs me that:

"The OM617 is considered to be one of the most reliable engines ever produced"

They appear to rust, I can deal with that.

The ancient Mercs are slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow, normally aspirated 4 bangers, ZF dogleg box, mechanically unburstable though. Remember years back driving a late model 308D that had done 400,000km and was still going strong

I repeat.......

Likewise the Mercedes T1 307/308d from the 80s. In their favour the om616 Diesel engine lasts forever. Against them, everything else. Rusty, comically heavy steering with built in slop, sounding like it's going to blow up at anything over 64mph, having to reach over to the passenger seat to reach the gear stick, but at least you'd be guaranteed an easy sale. Exporters love em which is fine by me.

The only difference is that the 209 will be a 5 pot rather than 4. They pull slightly better but still only 86bhp in a large van. Truly hateful machines.
