I want that number plate

Rather than hijack any similarly related subject threads I thought I would start this one....Its just a question really.   Pissing about on Cartell one wet evening I found that my grandfather's number plate is still in circulation.   Notwithstanding that the car was scrapped decades ago it somehow managed to survive on some 4wd thing (I imagine a lurking log book surfaced some while ago).    Point is - I would like it.  How do I go about tracing the owner and asking if its for sale - in an above hand manner, preferably!

doovla would prolly be a (good?) starting point if you explain the circs

Can't you write to the DiVLAds and enclose a fiver? SRSLY, I seem to recall you could do that and say you were a previous owner or something, and they'd send you the ownership history.

Had thought of doing that but wasn't sure if they gave out details of current owners.   Will give it a try, cheers.....

Unless you are a scumbag private parking contractor trying to scare a little old lady into giving you a couple of hundred quid 'penalty' for parking for 5 seconds on some invisible lines outside a home for fluffy kittens, DVLA won't give you details of current owner.

Tell the DVLA he cut you up and you want to go to his home and kill him in revenge. The twats will probably supply you with his details then.

I have tried and failed to reclaim, or at least find out the current owner of my Escort's original plate.

No dice.

Even the V888 history enquiry offers little help.

I think you have to the current owner or have a legitimate interest in the car to use that method, and you sign a declaration to boot.  Don't think idle curiosity counts.
