The filter should be wet with oil . Gear oil usually. Its how it stops the dust

In all fairness you don't exactly have much luck with XUD powered cars.

This appears to continue. But there are plans afoot.

When I say the rear tyres were scrubbing, I meant it. Something had to be changed.  Engine and sidewall meltdown imminent.

The tyre fitter was deeply dubious about raising it, but nothing bent or fell off. This was the one wheel that had a tyre with legal tread and an intact shoulder.

Some excellent cable tie \ beam usage here.

Well that's fantastic.

SRS, or sarcasm? :)

Except this is engine oil. From the sump \ crankcase.

I've taken to saying this after hearing of the mum who signed off texts to her son with 'WTF' with a slight misunderstanding of its meaning.

I think the knob van is ace complete with characterful bodged repairs.

I drove it and found it quite good. Kinda feels like it's floating rather than rolling, which is very French. Gear change is sound. I was told off for doing Will Hoy gear changes, and was surprised at how light a touch it needs. I kept beeping the horn when I meant to change gear, which wasn't so good. But that was just me being a dick. Yeah it's not quick, but do you want, a fucking Mi16...

Seems reasonable.

Sorry I missed this thread early on Jon, it has been an entertaining read today.

I do see why you want a fresh gear knob for it. Whoever thought a stale old bread bun from the bottom of the chest freezer would be a good replacement?

Have you ever been to rural Cambridgeshire?

OMG BE1 SCENETAX KNOB is en route.

S'pose as it's the KNOB VAN, it'd be a shame to get rid.

The KNOB will be kept in the GLOVEBOX in a PLASTIC BAG as a warning from HISTORY. [/Daily Mail].

Crikey, it's already an internet star. Next, record producers will be suing it for using their music in one its blogs.

The orange beacon doesn't work.

Swap it for a blue one and pretend to be a fireman.

It appears that someone has spotted this on Facebook:

It wasn't a spot so it got binned.

In other news:

Slight* oil leak.

A knob like this one (not actually this one) will be replacing the block of wood that will be PRESERVED in a PLASTIC BAG.

At the end of the collection mission, at 3J Driveline in Gaydon.

The beacon's wiring has been cut and removed. My plan to reconnect it was foiled by a lack of spare wire.

You need to seal the KNOB in an airtight case, so future generations can enjoy it.

Run it under the tap and then safely store it in a swamp?

Put it on display at the Tate. Charles Saatchi might pay big money for it.

Or claim Jesus made it during his Peugeot apprenticeship years

It was more that you kept missing third 'because the gearbox was confusing'. It's a standard H pattern, and BE 'boxes are fingertip light by their nature. Peugeot made its own rod linkages, which no doubt helped.

It's also an old skool diesel, which means you have give it revs aplenty to make any kind of progress - especially as it was pulling a much taller tyre that it was designed for (175 65 14 instead of a 155 70 14).

Driving at 4 am probably help me, and the coffee and haribos were having a strange effect on me.

Is it also less noisy on the new wheels?
