tooSavvy Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 ..... Proton have slapped wob onto the latest Mizz & sell it at home, 'own brand' style. Like the Impian. Govt over there taxes new 'foreign made' cars heavily so the flip-flop wearers basically have to buy 'local'. TS
HillmanImp Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Hmm this could be a good solution to the quandry of what to replace the missus's car with. She wants something bigger and more reliable than her shitty mazda 2. Might do some research on these to see how they fare. My old man has the model before (he bought it a year after this one came out brand new for sod all as they could not shift them) and its been pretty much bulletproof. These has entirely bypassed me, might have to have a think of other cars that are so bland they have failed to register but are better than a Mazda 2 (well that could be a long list but you get what i mean).
garbaldy Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 Well I have found one of these Lancers and I have to say I am pretty pleased with it, its fast enough comfy handles ok and looks not bad, the interior plastics are not as bad as I was expecting and it feels pretty well screwed together, not to sure if they have dpfs or not will pop it on the lift and have a look I hope it doesn't no pics but its future shite anyway so not really relevant for the next few years.
barefoot Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Chap across the road has just replaced his 323 with a 54 plate Mazda 6, looks nice but the rear arches are definitely a bit wob fest.

cort16 Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Did you manage to find a saloon all the ones I could see are hatchbacks and a bit bogging looking ?
garbaldy Posted September 14, 2014 Author Posted September 14, 2014 Did you manage to find a saloon all the ones I could see are hatchbacks and a bit bogging looking ? Yup I sure did and I have to say I am more than happy with this car, the plastics are not as bad as reported and the interior is a place I don't mind spending time in, with the drivers seat fully back I can still sit in the back with plenty leg and head room.I have owned it for nearly a couple of months now and can report that it is a very capable car being both fast and economical, it is in fact the first car I have bought for some time which I am actually quite happy with and I fully expect it will be a long termer,My record on the last 5 cars has been dire with electric park brake troubles through to just being embarrassed to say I own this car Its not all been plane sailing though as after just two weeks the Lancer started to go into limp mode first thing in the morning, and the selling garage booked it into our local misterbishi dealer,This turned out to be the problemSo one brand new turbo later the car goes even better than it did when I bought it, I suppose we cant blame misterbishi for this as it is the infamous vag variable vane turbo problem, r.welfare, The Moog and Vince70 3
skattrd Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 That looks pretty nice, I'd not thought of one of those. I am surprised at a Japanese firm using a VAG engine. A bit late, but the VAG variable vane turbo can be cleaned (curing sticky vanes & limp mode) with Mr Muscle oven cleaner, I am not joking, I did mine last year when I did the EGR delete.
Bren Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 The price of genuine mitsubishi spares is enough to bring on a stroke. Stanky 1
Pillock Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 It's only us Yoo-ropeens that create a strong demand for diesels, I imagine it was easier to buy in crate VAG diesels than develop one.
garbaldy Posted September 14, 2014 Author Posted September 14, 2014 A bit late, but the VAG variable vane turbo can be cleaned (curing sticky vanes & limp mode) with Mr Muscle oven cleaner, I am not joking, I did mine last year when I did the EGR delete. Yes they can be cleaned but as it was a warranty job it was to be fixed by the garage, when they stripped the turbo for cleaning they discovered it was weeping oil at the seals so it was a whole new turbo glad it was not me paying that's all I can say. The price of genuine mitsubishi spares is enough to bring on a stroke. I haven't experienced that myself as in the past I've found parts cheaper from the main dealer than even second hand ebay parts guess I've just not been looking for the same parts you have. Yet anyways.
skattrd Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 I suppose the VAG lump is preferable to the Renault diesel engine they used in the Carisma etc.
r.welfare Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 I can't remember when Chrysler dropped its stake in Mitsubishi but I'm sure they were also using the VAG 2.0TDI in their smaller stuff sold in Europe recently.
garbaldy Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 A quick update on this for anyone interested in future shite. its coming up for two years ownership of this mitserbishi and the first bit of bad luck, while driving down Berwick high street this, reversed into the side of me while I was driving past the disabled car parks. its not to bad apart from the scratches in the alloy wheel, it appears the wheel took the most of the impact, at first the daughter tried to blame me but soon changed her tune and the 85 year old driver doesn't want to go through his insurance, I have been told to get it repaired and he will pay but we shall see if he's true to his word, After about 30k of trouble free and no expenditure I noticed the mot had been out for a few days oops must keep track of all these cars better. I checked it over for mot and thought best to replace the brakes as they are past their best, So I picked up these for the extortionate price of £54 and set to fitting them, I like when things come to bits this easy it makes life so much easier, A nice convenient bung which allows a couple of clicks to back of the handbrake adjuster then the disc/drum fell of, it looks like I've had my moneys worth out of the pads that's for sure. A quick reassemble later and job done, While I was under the arch I cleaned out this pile of mud which I dare say will probably lead to rust starting and eating the whole sill. It was booked in for mot and sailed it with no advisory's so that will hopefully be the last spend for another two years, The Moog, Lacquer Peel, CGSB and 1 other 4
garbaldy Posted September 19, 2016 Author Posted September 19, 2016 Yes its a modern so shoot me, but I am willing to bet it will be future shite as they sold in such low numbers they stopped selling the saloons after only a few years, Ive had this car over two years now and its been a very good car with no ftp since the new turbo was fitted and still pulls 48/54 mpg we did get a fault though which blocked of the computer readout as the car thought it was empty all the time, since you couldn't see the mileage then guessing was out of the question, I looked under the seat which revealed a nice sized inspection cover this was removed to reveal a sea of plastic fittings. after careful removal of the plastic pipes I could pull the complete pump and sender out, the sender unit slides out from the pump and I dismantled it as this was the problem. I hauled out the solder stick and set to with some heat and after I got a decent connection it was then a simple case of clicking all the parts back together, the re soldered sender then slid back into the pump and ready to refit, stuck it back into the tank plumbed it all up and a quick test. job jobbed, who said you cant fix moderns, I have also done the cam belt so may do a write up at some stage. taxi paul Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I chucked my modern diesel in because of DPF wankarage and got a 2.0 petrol Mazda 5 . Wouldn't have a modern diesel again. My hiace is also a 2.7 petrol. Although fuel economy is not its strong point average 27mog compared to Mazda 37 mpg. I do like the Mitsubishi though. The 2.5 fwd galant estate is the one for me. Maybe one day.
garbaldy Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 /\ it's a good job this one doesn't have a DPF then. I here what your saying about modern dizzlers as plenty advertised for sale with faults.
garbaldy Posted June 27, 2018 Author Posted June 27, 2018 So still running this lancer which I think is coming up for four years now,It's been a cracking car so far with only minimal expenditure to keep it roadworthy, All the reviews state that they are under braked for the power and it is very easy to promote brake fade, In February I stuck a set of new front brake pads as they where down to the wear limit springy thing, and of course it was MOT time which it sailed yet again, Roll on a a few months of slightly spirited brake fade induced driving and I hear a metal to metal sound from the front,Sod it let's try this lot then. It's a nice evening so crack out the tools.Pop the wheel off and the pads are pretty worn for three months but not bad enough to warrant replacement. After removing the brake caliper mounting bracket the disc should just fall of hmm maybe not then. A bit of MC hammer action bingo. Spot the difference. Reassemble with a shade of smash, Then sit back and admire. Oh not to long as the other side needs done. CGSB, Lacquer Peel, Dirk Diggler and 3 others 6
garbaldy Posted June 27, 2018 Author Posted June 27, 2018 I have a quick brew and then attack the other side,This looks like it could be the issue. Removed the pads and I recon I've cooked them to much and the glue has given up the ghost and shed it's friction material, that's the only explanation I have for them wearing in such a short time. Disc shot to shit. Stuck it all back together and admire the shitty need a refurb alloys. But at least it's shinney behind them Oh I almost missed out the brake fluid half change,While the caliper was removed from it's mounting I pumped the piston out as far as I dared, stuck a container under the blead nipple and pushed the piston back in so the crappy fluid didn't go back into the system,Did this on both sides and pumped some new fluid through so hopefully the brakes will be a better feel. That's 500ml of dirty fluid replaced with nice new clean fluid,Just need to bleed the back shitty fluid out now but that will have to wait a bit longer. And a quick pic that some dood took at a local meet. CGSB, Bucketeer, scdan4 and 1 other 4
Sir Snipes Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 I think they look alright and I imagine the hatch has a decent boot.
