Seaton salvage in..erm..Seaton, Rutland is a proper old school yard.It is a metals recycling yard aswell but there is still loads of 80's 90's chod about the place.

If you time it right the Mrs and kids can watch the steam trains on Harringworth viaduct whilst you have a rummage in the old station yard (Seaton salvage)

AutoBitz, on the long straight out of Longtown, is gr9!!

He sold me a 'pi$$ pot' tin gbox end cover for a few quid off a clio.

I called in, going 'up' to Glasgee, left him a piccie of the bit..... collected coming back down, in the afternoon :)

All in the woods..... verry mossy & weed woven!

As far as I know, Jackson street in Haydock is still going. That was a proper scrappy - stacked 3/4 high on mud, in fact every time I've been it was like a bog. Always had a good selection of chod as well.

There's another in winwick right next to the railway line, you see it from the M6. Again, usually has a fair few older stuff in there, but he's a bit crazy with his prices. Last time I went there was about 6 years ago, when I needed a wing mirror for a Mk1a MR2 as someone kicked mine off. I found one attached to a collection of ferrous oxide which was once similar to an MR2, fizzing at the bottom of pile where it had clearly been for an eternity, took the mirror off, then he wanted £35 for it, haha!! Told him he could keep it.

Trying to find a decent old fashioned car cassette player, I found some good old cars at Harry Bucklands today. No other scrapyards have cars of this age. Choc full of 2003 ish age cars otherwise.

The '5 seemed pretty good. Can't see what's wrong with it but presume terminal underbody rot.

The volvo 240 was a 4 speed yet featured a vinyl roof and go faster stripes. Original dealer plates too.

Good to see that TR7 is still there. Shame about the 5, looks better than most that are still the road.

I use Fainty's in Barrow, which is very much a family-business kind of place.  They don't stack the cars much, but you can stroll around until you find what you need, once you've asked.  Prices seem a touch salty, but that could just be me, being a mingebag, as usual.

Whereabouts are they? Must go for a mooch!

I've been down to Dalton Motor Breakers a couple of times, but they're a bit funny. Friend was in about 5 years ago looking to buy the heritage wings and bonnet, still in transport primer, on an abandoned project MGB shell, and was told to get stuffed. The car hasn't moved, and those heritage panels are now held together by the BMH stickers. There's a complete s2 109" Landy there too which I would have so many parts off, or even buy whole, but they won't let it move and it'll likely snap in half soon and end up cubed. No real order to their stuff and the stacking looks scary at times, have been in a Volvo V70 with 3 cars on its roof getting the door mirrors off, doors still opened lovely!

My favourite is Canal Head in Ulverston though, just round the corner from me. I've had a fair few bits and bobs for the 75, including spending all afternoon yesterday taking this early production one apart...

OMGHGF (2nd time) and knackered clutch hydraulics all at once were too much, 65k ish on the clock and lots of nice parts (now all mine)

I use these regularly too, the owner is a sound bloke.

Miss these proper breakers yards. It's mainly due to EU regs about various oil-type fluids leaching into the ground so they have to be drained and put on hard-standing,  this has forced most breakers to either clean up and re-do their sites or close up altogether. Plus the inevitable over-arching H & S B-S to contend with doesn't help either (here's an idea, if you're frightened/not grown-up enough to go into these places - the answer is don't go in).

I've used Canal Head for the 406 and was very happy, although I got the impression he didn't really want people wandering. It probably helped that what I wanted (starter motor) was something he already had off. He later had our company Transit too...

Fainty's is down towards Cavendish Dock, on the left. Call round and we'll have a mooch together!

We used to have loads on the Wirral. There are none left now.The last decent ones now have barricaded off the yard, and point you to a mk4 Astra if you ask for anything older than a mk3 Cavalier. If they do get anything of that age, it gets cubed straight away due to lack of space.

There are still some in Wrexham though, and Jackson's in Queensferry is still good, they get a lot of 80's/90's stuff and keep hold of it for 6 months or so, before cubing a load en masse (and then getting a load more in).

I my growing up years in scrap yards, I've had a car nearly fall off the three cars underneath and also been locked in a couple.

I didn't think deatons were too bad for price really. I agree they are miserable f****rs though.

Sounds good! I'm generally only back in Cumbria for the weekends these days, but give me a shout next time you're going that way anyway!

Went to Harry Bucklands today.  Bit lacking in what I needed, but a friendly enough place, loads of stock and good access.  And a badge and a petrol cap and some clips?  £2.

I'm happy, lets all give them as much business as we can!
