Citroen 1.9TD Fuel pump solenoid removal

Just take the plunger out of stop solenoid on the pump and drive it home in the daylight, old diesels don't need any electricity to run.

I saw that und thought a charged 45ah battery would hold the stop solinoid open for 3days so if it started and drove in daylight then anywhere mainland UK was possible.

Mmm superb! (No idea where the fuel pump or solenoid is but that's cool)

What woul I do if it rains? Would taking the xms mattery and disconnecting the starter keep the wiper going?

Even shoehorned into a 205, there's room to work on this lump. Alternator's on the front right, fuel pump above that, with the stop solenoid on top of it.

PS buy the ZX!

So arrive, remove solenoid, jump her up, pay the man, drive home (in the daylight hoping it doesn't rain...)

let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of shite collection .

Sam

Take battery (or come to mine and get two charged batteries), drive back to mine on new battery, fit alternator here where there is a workshop, tools and coffee. Go home.

That sounds a good plan. You can drive a long way in an old diesel that isn't charging - I did about 60 miles in a BX after having to remove the alternator belt because the alternator seized!

How far is Weston super made from Gloucester?

The friend who is possibly sponsoring the trip has a brother in Bristol so we could stop there if needed, but the zx only has 1 wiper, so wcpgw

Weston is about 55 miles from my house. £6.30 for the bridge though. 25 miles to Bristol tops from Weston.

I did hull to 20 miles from Romford on a brand new battery while towing a car transporter, last fifty miles in the dark. A charged battery will last a couple hundred miles in daylight on an xud engine.

I did 60 miles a couple of weeks ago in a modern all singing all dancing 3.0 V6 diesel ,at night. The voltmeter was down to 6.5 when I got home mind.

Next day connected the boost pack and drove to autoelectrician's unit on that.

A non electronic diesel in daylight should manage a couple of hundred miles on a decent fully charged battery, just stop at a services and plug your battery charger into the electric car point-WCPGW ?

Sorry didn't see Messershmitt's post above, great minds and all that!

This a good offer Campbell, and I can't say I won't need to possibly come but I won't have an alternator, plan is to get it back home then wait for an eBay one to come whilst carrying on with the xm for a week or two, mainly because I put a full tank in the xm yesterday and can't siphon it out into a derv car etc!

We are going to sit down and check figures later then my mate can decide if he's in on it!

With the plunger removed from the solenoid an old-school diesel will run until it's stalled or runs out of fuel, even with the battery and alternator removed.

Posted

Sweet! I'll take more tools than I need just in case, luckily my mates driving me down, so wont be far if I do stall/it dies!

Reading about similar issues on Berlingo forums (comes up in google) it might be something as simple as a broken wire, cant work out from the listing if matey is clued up on it or not!

Oh, reckon a bonnet would fit inside the car with the seats down? Just seen that it comes with a spare...!

Ah, another question, although couldnt be more different...

How does one jump from an OMGMODERN 10 plate octavia vrs?

I ask because we needed to jump a mates van once, so my friend positioned his car, then had doubts about wether neutral goes on the battery or something on the engine bay. Not wanting to blow his ecu or other OMGMODERNZRSHIT issues he moved out the way and I got the XM, but we wont have the XM...

Ah found the manual from briskoda.Negative to the block somewhere then live to live

Sorry I'll stop asking so many questions soon!

Found cort16's picture from his zx back in feb, is the circled bit the solenoid?

solenoid.png

So 4 screws, top off, take out plunger thing, top back on, 4 screws in, drive home?

Posted

No, it looks a bit like a spark plug from the outside, with a single wire on it. Look up stop solenoids on ebay to see what they look like. It's just occurred to me that you won't be able to access it if the car has an immobiliser.

It would still be easier to just ask the vendor to charge the battery, then just drive it home.

Posted

Will take the xms battery with us. What, just don't turn anything electrical and only stop the car when we need derv?

Posted

Yup. How far have you got to drive? Like I say, I've done over 60 miles with an XUD and no charging. You might need a bump to restart if refuelling (gently does it, second gear - you can't jump start at a petrol station) but it should be fine. If you've got jump leads and you're taking another car, connect them before starting it at the vendor's house and let it take a bit of charge. You'll be fine, especially if the weather is dry. You can still signal and stuff - headlamps and heater blower are the big power drains.

Posted

122 miles, with the possibility of a stop in Bristol or Gloucester. I don't think my mates got any other batteries... But I'll get halfway home!

Posted

Ah. amy said she might come too, so we can take the battery from the meriva too!

Posted

Just take jump leads. If the battery seems to be getting low, have a pause and 'pour' in some more electricity. A quick ten minute charge should do.
