BMW C1 (scooter content) Talk to me

I'm thinking about a job with a terrible commute (A4174/M4/M5/Aztec West for those who know Bristol -part bus laned so can use a bike) 16 miles and absolutely nowhere to park a car at the end of it.

I can ride a 125 and I'm happy with scooters; I don't want a motorbike I don't trust myself.

Any thoughts on these BMW C1 scooters? Is there some sort of alternative?

I'd love one of these 1970s Quasars but they only made about 7!

I was over in Geneva a few months back and was astounded to see these things were everywhere over there. I think I was easily into double figures for C1 spots the three days I was there.

There was something similar made by Benelli but with a removable roof. Think those ones are even more scarce than the C1 though.

Il primo modello, disponibile negli allestimenti "Base", "Family Friend" ed "Executive"

It sounds like Channel 9. Buono estente.

I'd recommend a YBR125 or CBF125. Yes they're both geared bikes but will be so much cheaper to run (durability and fuel consumption), more fun to ride, fast and stable. If you can ride a geared bike, do it! They're just so much better than a twist and go.

with even only a small amount of mway id be doing the cbf125 cg125 cbr 125 thing

the bigger wheels absorbs the shite better

scooter wheels aint good for that - wind also does them no favours

Already got a '10 reg Vespa GTS for my daily commute (6 miles in grid locked traffic takes just half an hour) . Absolutely brilliant to use but these are faster roads and I think i need something else.

BMW c1. Slow, underpowered and susceptible to cross winds. Command high money for the 'premium' name. Bennelli also make a model called adiva. Roof folds in to the very large top box. More power than the BMw. Yes they are rare but would rather that then the c1

Do bear in mind if you're riding on L plates you're not allowed on motorways at all.

Oh no I didn't know that! Even on CBT?

Posted

ahh l plates = traffic will beat you silly :\

impound and fall down stairs etc

edit DO NOT buy chinese unless very light town stuff

friend bought a new jailing??? 125 and he used his punto more

Looking on a map you can get there without using the motorway but I wouldn't know if that's any good for you.

I think best case for going on the motorway is 3 points for driving other than in accordance with a licence but possibly more depending on the mood of the officer.

l plates if they see you (billons of cameras so likely)

fixed penalty

but they could say not in accordance licence condtions wihich can be anything up to 8 points

if its the provisional licence on yer car licence (they can be separate most arent) - that means a ban = theyll take your car licence off you too

And? What's more reliable than a 125 Vespa?!

The first thing to say is I'd love one of those Feet Forward bikes like the Quasar, but a Voyager isn't a looker and as you say, they're very rare.

Have you considered doing your bike test?  I did mine about 10 years ago and it wasn't very difficult.  I had lessons every week and used the 500cc bike provided by the instructor, while still riding my 125 every day.  Didn't take too long and passed first time.

Any ride on a motorway I'd have more than a 125 bike, you can get a bit bullied if you can't do more than 70mph and some drivers see an L plate as a target.

There are some great 400cc or 500cc faired scooters that have great weather protection, plenty of performance and cheaper than a BMW C1 in decent condition

I'm a motorway cruiser with 23 stone to drag around. I'd need a Rover V8 trike with plastic chrome skulls stuck all over it at the very least.

Suzuki Hayabusa, Honda Blackbird, Kawasaki ZX11 and BMW K1300R are all also learner friendly bikes that probably suit your budget, license and commute.

The hassle of having to sit a cbt every two years is enough to make you pass a bike test.

You are aware you need to do that, aren't you? Until you pass the test it's a cbt every 24 months without fail.

Get a twn contessa.

For ultimate shiteyness you should get one of these...

for ultimate shite win it needs to be a gilera fuoco :D

mp3s can be ridden on a car licence and any engine you want as long as the bike place you buy it from has re registered it as - a tricycle

then same as the ones with car engines in - no problem

The piaggio MP3 standard model isn't actual classed as a trike due to the width the front wheels are apart. Therefore you can only have up to 125 on a cbt. The do make a model called the piaggio MP3 LT which has a wider track and is classed as a trike. I don't think they go as small as 125cc engine either

While trawling through some old, dusty bits of my Photobucket account I found this view of what's under a Voyager

And you can see from this old Top Gear test there's a good reason why most Engineers aren't stylists
