Correct, purchased 1947 from the Royal Marines (Gosport) by GPO for access to the Criggion VLF & HF Radio Station during periods of flooding.

Scrapped Feb 1968.

Criggion Radio Station closed in 2003.

During the first flooding in 1942  tractors and trailers were used

Until the water got too deep and the RAF had to air drop rubber dinghies to those trapped by the flood water.

As well as the GPA  a DUKW was used.

(Also scrapped so never on Swansea computer).

Cool info' thanks

I do like a DUKW, I went on one of the ones they used to have at Liverpool on my 40th Birthday (other half got it me as a treat). That was when you could go in the docks & then round town on a trip in one. Luckily it was before they started to sink & then the trips were no more..

One of the few Rumplers ever seen in Penge.

No, it's not recorded at the DVLA.

That's the first car Practical Classics restored. It had some prior rally history. The gent on the right is Paul Skilleter - author and publisher - who is 80 this year.

Amazing photos. It's Dagenham - and must be the body assembly shop with the body finishing pre the main line. It's 1966. There are Cortinas, Zephyr and Corsair in view.

Some of this is very raw.

Further back in time. I'm not sure what is being built here, it's rear engined and seemingly has a central steering wheel. Seems small. Some sort of cyclecar maybe?

Edit: I think they could be Hanomag Kommissbrot!

Zodiac 4-headlamp front clip. Coming down the line with a Cortina 2-door by the looks of it. Line looks very well organised. Quite a lot of hand correction to the Zodiac tub.
