MK3 zephyr 4's

I think they are ex-MoD imported back from air bases and the like - I think it might be Cyprus and other places. They were sold off in batches and all turned up at once on the 2nd hand car market in the late 60's. Some LHD I recall and all were dark green.

Couldn't even sell'when new eh.

No the early ones were huge sellers and there was even a waiting list. The problems really were building them quickly enough  and getting the quality right to keep up with demand - and the rest of British Leyland was so inefficient that any development was put back and the car - which was only ever intended to be a stop-gap - went on years too long.

Mark 3 Landcrab in the background, launched March 1972, shows the Marina had been on sale for a while when the photo was taken, it's not from shortly after launch.

I remember in the late 80's couldn't give them away, even breakers weren't interested as no one was bothering to fix them, regularly used to drag them in off roadside with collapsed trunions or split gearbox casings. We never used to sell owt off them or Maxi's/princess. only BL stuff  was mini & some Allegro . Same for Italian & french stuff except 2CV.

Ford, vexhull & avenger followed closely by Datsun  were the parts sellers.peugeot 504's were top of the list as was a guaranteed £200 from exporters,   our place would pay £30-40 for one, £20 for the others with £5-10 for the outcasts.

Scrap was £40-50 a tonne .

Used to love the voices of the ladies on Schevening VHF radio but imagined that although they sounded sexy they had buck teeth and fat bottoms.

It looks like they really did not have buck teeth.

Interesting fact. A females voice manges to cut through the static and interference of the radio waves. Thus they make for easier comms.

Just behind the lady, perched on the railings by the bus stop, is a Fiat 128 3P.

By the way, the BM is an E3. The E9 was the coupe.

A Volvo - probably a 140 Series. It's proportions have been slightly stretched by the camera lens.
