Japanese Hillman!

Isuzu made the Hillman Minx under licence from 1953 to 1962 when it was replaced by their first 'home made' car the Bellel.

They made the next, probably more recognisable, version of the Minx as well - (sos not B&W)

And this is what replaced it - the Bellel, again sorry about the colour, just get over it.

And while we're on about Isuzu they also built Japans first passenger car, a licence built Wolesley A6 (although they were called the Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering Co., Ltd. which doesn't quite trip off the tongue). For the moaners - this is a black and white picture, it's just that some of it has been coloured in.

The reg may have been a fake one (edit seems it was its original reg and car belonged to Bruce Robertson) - but as the film was made very cheaply it may have just been an old Jag they picked up. Being such a cult movie I'm sure the fate of the Jaaag is known. I expect Uncle Monty's Rolls survives.

The  fate of Withnail’s Other Jag is very well known ( on here anyway) t made its way to Torquay then Chester before ending up 2 miles from the Penrith Tea Rooms and King Henry pub - yes Milton Keynes !

Sybill Lupp. NZ Racing driver and Jaguar dealership owner. One of her E types is in Whanganui. I actually saw it.

REDV12  also carried the plates LUPP1 and LUPP and in 2003 became REDV12 again, by 2015It is shown as only doing less than 100 km per year

https://www.flickr.com/photos/richard16378/albums/72157694849732544 after sitting around for two years I at last got round to scanning my copy of the 1973 Motor roadtest book.

Ideally I would have liked to have used an A3 scanner as the pages are somewhat bigger than my A4 one, but I've managed to get a decent-ish picture of each car tested.

The whole set is at the above link but I've included 10 of the best here:

Nice to see the CV ratings in use, I don't think we had the 782 cm3 (aka 782cc) 4CV in the UK.

I've got a 1978 brochure with a 5 base having an 845cc engine not mentioned in the above advert, plus higher trim levels with the 956cc and 1289cc engines.

Thanks I've got the brochure that was probably issued just before this one.

There wasn't an 1108cc engined 5 until the 6 was discontinued IIRC.
