Ooooh, you are so wrong.

That's where the rockets launch from, to shoot down spy planes.

(I think you may be right. Just Cold War jitters).

Another later pic of same car after it was punted off.

Different detailing, and fuel filler on this side now.

It's alive, it's alive. Further down it says Vehicle Colour = White.

In some ways ahead of its time,  although the rear quarter glass reminds me of a VW 411/412....

Rare pic of a Lumo-converted Lotus Capri.

Lumo also offered Lotus 1558 Twin Cam conversions for the Cortina 1600E although I've never seen one.

If BMW were the German equivalent of Triumph (sporty aspirational saloons at a price premium) and wanted a hatch of their usual big  saloon output you get this...20191003_104838.jpg.a9ef8007b38fde575f2263f36fa3c03f.jpg

Same idea...same segment...probably similar buyers a few generations apart. The British motor industry created so many great ideas at the time which have come back round again...

Michelotti designed for both companies and the last Triumph Dolomite prototype has a distinctly 70's BMW look too. Instead we got the Acclaim. Such is life...

Cragars are what Roadkill is always applying to its fleet to make it a 'hot rod'  I do like the original 20s wheels though. They look so much better than insubstantial pram wheels you tend to expect of the era. Im1919EnV128-p573a.jpg.1ffa77eaf2215ac674282b701cbc85a3.jpg

The designer Roy Fedden was aero engine designer. The rear suspension is amazing. Im19191108CyCar-Cosmos.jpg.4f8bf09d492847019d500fafe90a0798.jpg

Roy Fedden had another go at cars after he left Bristol Aeroplane Co.. Not a success!

Also a radial engine, in the back this time.

Anyway, with all this Abbey Road / Beatles nostalgia about. image.jpeg.60aa42f3038a390efa2ce91d7269f7ef.jpeg

Taken the same day as the album cover. Which has a white Beetle behind the Beatles, where the Alfa is.

Vinyl roof being fitted. They sprayed it with adhesive, stretched it over a frame, stuck it onto the roof, then trimmed it with a knife.

Simples.

What is it???

It's the not-very-plain 1956 Plymouth Plainsman concept by Ghia.

Why do modern 8-seaters not look like this?

(Sadly) that's not some sort of secret retractable rear axle, it's a spare wheel. A feature which was included on some 1957 Plymouth station wagons.

And Bristol's - although their spare is at t'other end; in this case a 406.

No idea what this car is. Reg number no longer seems in use. Car would be pre-1914 at a guess.
