I think it is a Volvo 264

I'm still leaning towards a '72/'73  Volvo 144/164, mainly because I could not find a RHD 264 with the fuel cap and thinner bumpers shown in the original post.  Volvo did seem to vary the position of the fuel filler and style of rear lights a lot between the variants of 140 and 240 series 2 door and 4 door over this period.  UK models appeared to have extra fog or stop lamps next to the number plate.  The big bumpers and even longer tail came a bit later.  What do you reckon? Like @Tayne, I was reasonably sure it was a Volvo but confused by some of the details.  Photos: 1  Cropped from original post.  2&3  A 1972 164 from Car & Classic.  4   A  1973 144 Grand Luxe from KGF.

Yes looking at the bumper more closely it does look like a 1 series and could be either if the two you posted.

I have just noticed next to the R12 that is next to the Elan is a Renault 15. It's the gift that keeps giving.

77 RW was the first E-Type roadster built. It is possible a picture of Norman Dewis, the Jaguar test driver, who drove the car to the Geneva Motorshow in 1961. It was later used as a press demonstrator and was featured in The Motor in March 1961.

That sounds very plausible, but the eailer pic doesn't have white-wall tyres - I don't recall him changing them on the way? Also no foreign plate on the rear, so possibly a different outing?

Perhaps Jaguar had taken the white walls down with 9600 HP when it was transported. The Swiss plates and whitewalls being added after Dewis got there when the press drove the car around Geneva.

I'd guess they swapped the tyres and chrome wires when he got there for show purposes. Sir William Lyons was a stickler for correct detail.

The temporary plates were probably a Swiss requirement.
