She reached India… and then kept going for nine years, becoming the first British woman to ride solo around the world.

Good old Rootes of Maidstone. Every now and then I had to drop broken Peugeots here and it was a nightmare to find any space the building really wasn't suitable to be used as a large Dealership anymore.

Luckily it's grade two listed and the last time I passed through the bottom or Maidstone they were well into converting it into a hundred plus expensive apartments.

Think the avenger might be a GT.

Something thoroughbred relegated to the back there - and lurking amongst all those mass-produced cars.

Divided windscreen could be an XK Jaguar - but the scuttle is too high - in comparison to the Minx next to it, and the bonnet line too upright  - so maybe a Riley RMD Drophead (1949-51).

Alternative is an AC 2-Litre Drophead (1947-56).

Or less likely a Healey Westland Roadster (1947-50).

Or a Paramount (1950-56).

Anyway whatever it is - let's hope it found a caring buyer and survived. Being a more specialist car - maybe it's still about.

At that time the VB was hard pushed to deal with the newly introduced Focke Wulf FW190. As a stopgap, the Spitfire V was re-engined with a Merlin 60 series engine which transformed the aircrafts  performance, along with some other changes. As the Mk IX, it continued to be built for the rest of the war, with engines adapted for low, medium and high altitudes. Castle Bromwich built what might be called 'bread and butter' Spitfires during the war. Development and specialised aircraft like the Photo Reconnaissance variants being handled by Supermarine.

I think it's an XK Roadster as the screen frame looks to be all chrome/stainless. Your example is a Drop Head Coupe.

Scuttle height seems a little high compared to the windscreen of the Hillman Minx to the right - but it may be that the ground is rising left to right - these XK Jaguars were quite low on the road - beautiful cars - and hidden away on the back of a used car lot. Those were the days!
