Middle one is Nant-y-moel - typical Valleys grim place built around a mine (plus Nant-y-moel had the 'Phurnicite' plant).
Image below is 1977 place called LLanhilleth - if you go to https://llanhilleth.gwentheritage.org.uk/content/catalogue_item/aerial-view-llanhilleth-5 there's a much earlier aerial view - the place was truly grim.
There's still not a lot of money in The Valleys so gentrification is a sloooooow process - the money tends to come along the M4 corridor then seep up into the valleys but it's not rapid. You can cop the local house prices for sale on Rightmove here

Turd towns?

Not really like the ones there in the videos (the second video popped up in Archi-shite thread recently - I've been/delivered kit there and it is not pretty but I've seen rougher 70s/80s  estates in London that never get commented on).
In The Valleys there's basically a load of these Victorian era small 'villages' that were built as miners' row houses adjoining a pit/coke plant. These tended to be in the valleys (hence the name) and, in places, the ribbon developments met up and you got a bigger village/town. These were working class places so, not posh, but not terrible. You can still drive up one of the valleys and have two streets either side of you then a bloody great hill or coal 'bing' - there's no depth to the places.
Then the coal industry went tits up and, all of a sudden, no jobs, no money, fuck all.
Those who could, and wanted to leave -  did. So brain drain, money drain, clever young folks bugger off and you get - what we have there now.

Same as pretty much all the mining places you could mention (including East/South Ayrshire where I grew up).

Long Island Motor Parkway, opened in 1908. It was the first road designed for car use only. The road was privately built by William Kissam Vanderbilt II with overpasses and bridges to remove junctions. It closed in 1938 when it was taken over by the state in lieu of back taxes. Parts of the Parkway survive today as sections of other roads and as a cycle path in Queens.

I do wonder if anyone in the UK has any? @Sam Glover? :)

I remember asking my mum about the Israeli auto industry some years back, did they ever make cars locally over there and if so what were they like? her initial reaction to that question was something along the lines of this meme LOL

apparently they were *quite* autoshite LOL

so of course id love to import one, I think a pre-face lift Rom Carmel 1300 estate would be quite tasty,

although I do like the earlier reliant based ones which look like some alternate reality where a 4 wheeled regal was a thing

The picture shows the Autocar Factory in Camel, with Sabra Sporta and Sussita 12 estates and saloons coming of the production line.

PS It is not the blue car that the whole of the interwebs is looking for.

PPS Thanks @LightBulbFun for the aronline link
