Sent to Coventry (Contains Volvo but not Scotland)

Well I had to go because of ebay. Almost immediately after scrapping my Volvo 240 last year I wished that I hadn't and have been half looking around for another since. Last weekend I noticed a 240 estate up in Coventry and put in a best offer which was accepted. Unfortunately I was not able to pick it up in time for SF14, but managed to get a day off today to go and collect it.

The day did not start well as at the station my mate who was dropping me off asked "You have got your phone, haven't you?" errr no I hadn't, luckily kind mate loaned me his, but didn't explain how it worked, mine is one for old people and just has big buttons, this was a fancy modern job with no visible way of working it.

Then time to collect my pre-booked ticket, the machine wouldn't let me have it, so I ended up buying another and didn't notice that I was charged for and got a return (although it might have been cheaper than a single). Made the train with minutes to spare, I normally hate trains and don't like too many people around me, but on this occasion I ended up sharing a table with two valleys women who were off on holiday to Ibiza; they were a right good laugh and it made the journey a pleasant one.

I'd said I would phone when I left Birmingham so that they could collect me at Coventry Station, I have no idea how it worked but I did get through to an answerphone, but had no call back to confirm. I needn't have worried as when I got out of the station the Volvo was waiting.

A quick trip back to the yard (yes I bought it from a car spares/breaker) an exchange of paperwork/cash and it was off to find the M6. It was showing over half-full on the fuel gauge so I stuck another £20 in to see if it went up, luckily it did to almost full.

Obligatory Fuel Station shot

Journey back was fine it drives very nicely, had one stop for an over-priced sandwich just before the M50

and that's it. It has a new MOT they stuck six months tax on for me (the disc is on the dash)

Verdict, not the nicest I've had, but nowhere near the worst. It needs a damn good clean and the tailgate rewiring (rear wiper and tailgate central locking dead). I'm very pleased with it.

That looks pleasant enough, You could even fit your Alto in the back of it!

Looks very nice, hope you didn't get up in the rather depressing Coventry ring-road.

White 240 estates WIN! :)

Does that have the blue-r than blue interior like mine?

I don't know about putting the Alto in the back, but I nearly ran over a small Kia, at a roundabout, which hadn't gone when I thought it had. The interior is currently mainly dirt and dog hair/smell, underneath that it's the grey tweedy fabric. There's probably not much point cleaning it too much as my dog will soon get it back to the state it is now. I doubt that Volvo will be able to supply a code for the radio so I may have to stick something else in there instead. The biggest shock of the purchase was when my insurer initially tried to charge me over £800 to stick it on cover, when I'd stopped laughing it came down to a more reasonable £180.

I really am tempted to find a tidy 240 GLT estate and drop an LS1 V8 in.

That may just be my next project.

I reckon white Volvo estates are the next financial bubble so I'll sell mine before the crash and make literally pounds.

LOOK OUT LEHMAN BRUVAZ.

This looks a pretty decent old thing, hope it serves you well.

I should be able to sort you out with that. There is a row of diodes on the main PCB, you might have to take the cassette mechanism out to see them. There are something like 16 spaces but not all have diodes in, if you can tell me which ones do have diodes (or post a picture) and tell me the model number I can get you the code.

Looks like quite an agreeable old thing. Reminds me of the fact that I'd really like to have another 240 at some point :)

Looks bonny. And England needs MOAR VOLVO so that Scotland doesn't get them. We're starting to sink 'cos twats like me, cms206 and rml2345 keep bringing them north.

Very true, cept he's in Wales...

I'm in Kent at the minute, and it's definitely on a slant cos of Volvos to the north and west.

Nice one AU, well bought!
