I have sent an email regarding this bike;

Which is very near the port of La Havre,

Now I'm in the east midlands so a jaunt to frogsville would be a several day affair allowing for ferry times etc,

Soooooo00000000000000ooooooooo,

Does anyone here get over there at all ever? Perhaps with a generously sized canoe, or a van with a bit of space going begging?

Please post up below stating your terms, if infact you might be able to assist in repatriating this motorbikeshite.

You might get lucky in a couple of months, Le Havre is favourite port for Le Mans boys 'n' girls. June 14/15

You could do it in a long day.

Get a Dover - Calais ferry (24hr return / daytrip fare should be £30 or so), its about a three hour drive from Calais to Le Havre so allowing a couple of extra hours for collecting it and buying cheap red win and baguettes and you could easy do it in a day.

Get on with it ;)

If you don't actually live in Dover it's something like a nine-day trip to get there though, isn't it?  Especially with that there London stuff in between...

No...

Though as Ruff lives in that there Lincolnshire, I'd suggest an overnighter would be a shrewd move. There's a Travelodge/Premier Inn just off the motorway at Ashford.

As Mr L says, perfectly do-able in a day, albeit a long day!

Can't you just duct tape some barrels onto a Datsun and set off from Mablethorpe and paddle until you bump into France?

The Premier Inn at Thurrock West is a good one if you want a cheap overnighter. Right next to the M25 so you're only an hour to Dover from there. You could be in Le Havre for a late lunch.

Vulg, that would meaning going to Mablethorpe...

I have looked into going via Dover, as the crossing is a lot shorter, doing it that way would be an 800 round mile trip, most likely in a shit french van.

It isn't impossible, but it will all hinge on how good the bike is, and what the costs involved in bringing it home are.

Good point, well made.

But you'd have to drive in France. Never drive in France.

I reckon you could do it in a good day, I reckon you'd enjoy it. I'd be happy to lend a hand but I'm on the other side of France, as far away from Le Havre whilst still being in France as you can get. Basically the similar distance as Southampton to Dundee.

What an odd statement

An alternative plan would be to come to sunny* Portsmouth and get the overnight ferry to Le Havre, thereby combining travelling and sleeping in a moderately safe manner. Arrive in Le Havre early in the morning, eat your own bodyweight in croissants, collect motorbike, bum around Le Havre for remainder of day, get back on ferry, sleep, arrive back in blighty refreshed and drive home. Admittedly that's 3 days trip, but treat it like a mini-holiday and its not too bad a plan.

Got any family who'd sub you some pez money for a day-trip to france for a booze-n-fags run? Take a loved one on a romantic* city break?

Rent van. Drive to port. Ferry to France. Drive to where stuff you need is. Collect it. Drive back.

Piece of piss.

Of course, as the Shite-ist most closely situated to Portsmouth, I may be able to be tempted into collecting this for you if that helps lubricate matters?

I have use of a VW T4, provided I give some notice, and could feasibly make it over there for a day in the not-too-distant future. I also have the luxury of possessing a garage so aforementioned bike could be stored until you have an opportunity to collect it from Stanky towers?

PM me if this is a remotely appealing prospect.

Why not go from Portsmouth direct to Le Havre?  It's no further than Dover from Lincoln and you'll probably make up the extra couple of hours on the ferry when you get to the other side. Overnight at Portsmouth or take the overnight ferry one way, but that can be a bit pricey, particularly if you want a cabin :(

Edit: as usual a bit late to the party, Stanky beat me to it :)

Yeah I've had a quick look into it, but the 8 hour crossings put me off a little!

It really depends if I get anything back from the seller, I mean I suppose it might be possible that he'd bung it on a ferry for me if someone were to collect at the other end, as we shitests say, WCPGW?

Can't you stop in a frog lodge and make a holiday of it?

These people are doing cheap* breaks to Le Harve if you are in dire need of an excuse.

Given the choice I'd take an old French diesel estate (where have I seen one of those?) rather than a van because a van sometimes goes into the "freight " category and the OMGMPG. Dartford crossing charges more for a 106 van then a 405 estate and ferry is approx £138 for car but £198 for van.   If you get no further then I may be able to help much  later in the year as I go via St Malo down to Portugal and back.

Hitch-hike there with helmet stuffed with Euro's, buy, gas station photo-shoot, ride back.

FFS - four hours to dover, drive to Le Havre down the motorway, pick up bike, drive back, ferry - 24 hours tops!

and you're taking a van - that means you don't need a hotel either - if it's good for sixteen illegal immigrants, it's good enough for one autoshiter!  Man up!

It's all academic anyway, I still haven't heard back from the seller, perhaps he is on strike.
