NEC Restoration Show?

Is anyone planning to go to this show?

Will it be any good?

In theory I could go on Saturday if I want.

Posted

Mikeknight and I shall be there on the Sunday.

Thinking about it. The NEC always seems a long way away but having just looked it's only 120 miles.

That's just the distance from the carpark to the door..

I'm in and out of there tomorrow, Friday and Monday but annoyingly have other plans for the weekend itself. Gah!!!

Posted

I may do in the morning, seeing as it's just down the road. Depends on the weather.

I hope that RS200 has seen some lovin' since October!

*EDIT* Aaaaaand that doesn't say NERC. I'm out!

Yep, Big Tobacco will be undergoing a steering box transplant on the P6 Club stand.

Excellent! I look forward to searing my eyeballs with proper Tobacco Leaf. It'll be glowing under NEC lighting. I'll be there Sunday too.

Danny Hopkins is bringing this.

I was thinking of going Saturday PM or Sunday but there are a few shows around in the Southwest that weekend and I'd rather see complete cars than a bunch of bits on tables.

If one has a few hours free time in the second city following POL would this be worth checking out? Or is it something you'd be better off taking more time at?

Posted

It's the first one, so it's a bit hard to say really. I'm expecting it to be a bit like the NEC, but with stuff actually going on, and clubs actually working on cars rather than sitting around having a brew.

Oh arse. I sort of want to go to this. But I sort of don't want to be bum raped by the nec, or stuck driving for 5 billion hours, or paying 50 notes for a train where I don't even get a seat.

Er, guess I'm oot.

I like the sound of this - won't be going this year, but look forward to hearing the reports and maybe I'll book it in the diary for next year.

Posted

Having checked out the floorplan, it seems to be taking up only two halls, so won't be on the 'almost impossible to get around in a day' scale of the main NEC show.

Posted

I have been off work for two days with a terrible cold.  I think I might have to miss it.

Posted

Posting from NEC wifi! Some interesting stuff here, unusual to see so much rust and ruin under fluorescent lights. Plenty of shiny cars too if you're into that sort of thing.

Time. And money. Lots of money.

Does OMGNECWIFI not allow for photographic evidence transmission?

I spent an excellent two days moving some premier-league chod into the NEC, and had a good mooch around last night. Some good stuff there but I think No. 1 Shit Heap must go to Sam Glover's Tarpan... it is well worthy of close inspection...!!!

Mr Velouuur and I won't be attending, we're both horribly ill with the plague*.

Prime shite. Good to see you again, and The Junkman. Saw Dugong just before I left for the long drive home. Was a great, if small, show. I suspect it'll be back next year, perhaps larger. Was nice to actually get around the whole show without fretting about time though. Stark contrast to the main NEC show! Also, there were rusty shitheaps all over the place. Pics to follow.

A few pics.

Loved this.

Great photos, thanks Dee Dubya.  This looks seriously like my kind of car show.  Someone remind me to put this in the diary next year.

Looks good. How busy was it?

We were offered a trade stand there but turned it down as I had a previous engagement and also I wasn't entirely convinced that the likely income would justify the not inconsiderable outlay. Wondering if it would be worthwhile next year?

Was pretty busy, and even more so yesterday apparently. It never got impossible to walk around though, as the aisles seemed wider. Before next year, get some of the models out of their boxes, cover them in mud and straw and advertise them as OMG BARNFINDS! You'll be quids in for sure.

I'll be on the P6 Club stand. So will be Mr Conelrad, AFAIK.

Do you know anyone from the West of London chapter they meet on one Tuesday of the month at a pub (The Case @ Pinner ) we do a quiz in.

On a completely unrelated mater I pass this on the way to work

We had a chat with your competitor, Eddie/90s Models, who had a stall there.

He told us in no uncertain terms, that it was a total loss for him.

I don't think a Resto-Show is the right venue for model chod in general, people have too many other things on their mind.

You'd be better off at a classic car show, where there are more casual visitors, bouncing castles, and grouching Joshuas, Aidans and Tylers.

A Resto-Show is not a family event, maybe that's why I prefer them to classic car shows.

That pretty much confirms my thoughts tbh. If Eddie lost money then we'd have done worse - he has a full time job to fall back on, some of us need to make a living out of it!

I reckoned that with what it would cost us to do it would be massively unlikely to be profitable, shame really as despite it being a huge amount of work I like doing shows at the NEC. Roll on November...
