Water leak - coolant system?

My sister had the 1.0 which was a dog and killed its engine.

It was nt worth fixing, apparently they do not like to be taken apart, or so a local mechanic told me.

Depends how cheap is cheap if it's a couple of hundred and looks and drives well you could always try bypassing the matrix (heater won't work) which won't cost a penny and shouldn't be too bad now spring is here at last.

Or you could throw in a bottle of K seal which is an Autoshite favourite and it may just cure the leak (it did on mine) or if the job isn't too bad it may be worth just changing the matrix.

A new one will most probably cost in the region of 30 quid.

A new one total cure will most probably cost in the region of 30 3 quid.

Changing the heater matrix on an AEX engined polo is dead cheap in terms of parts but factor in 6-8 hours to get at it, change it, then rebuild the entire interior.

bypassing it on the engine side of the bulkhead is a doddle though, either get a 180 degree silicone hose of about 15mm diameter (measure one of the inlet pipes before purchasing it. All I can tell you is that 19mm is definitely too big) or be a winner like me and bodge it up using a plastic elbow joint with a 1 inch bit of metal tube cut off a bike handlebar stuck into each end, joining the two ends of the pipes that run from the cylinder head, through the bulkhead to the matrix. jubilee clips help here. Mine held together for ~8000 miles and were still going strong when I sold it to a guy in the middle of summer.

The water inside may be coolant pissing out a hole in the matrix. Be very wary as if it fails catastrophically you're in for a 90 degree face, foot and hand wash via the vents.

the engines are a  bit gutless, but do seem to go on forever. It will rust though.

A VW that's taking on water and has a non-working heater? Surely this is a first. Oh, hang on....

What is it about bloody VAG products letting in water? our Polo is made like a brick poo-poo house but can't keep water out of the back doors.

I've just spent a few hours taking the carpets out of a pisswet , sorry Passat.

Poor design of scuttle and pollen filter housing followed by ecus in the footwells.

Great design but at least they have pretty blue dash lights and soft touch grab handles.

"I suggest you proceed to the Tesco filling station and purchase half a gallon of petrol. Then, head to poundland and buy five 'Clipper' brand lighters. Retain four and use one with the petrol to set the Polo alight"

I'm getting better at this..... Or Google Translate has expanded it's array of handled languages.

Shame I'm selling our 1.4 Polo, sounds like its not a normal one.

No leaks, and the heater is like a furnace. :-D

All Vw's are shit.

The 1.4 Golf of daughter, after months of grazed knuckles and telling myself the sound of a pocket billiards playing skeleton in a biscuit tin sound of the 16v lump is normal, has decided to put the oil warning light and buzzer on when it feels like it, and piss all its pretty coloured coolant over the recently fitted gearbox.

Bah.

Avoid like the plague. I understand the 1.4 engine likes to eat itself.
