Feck me how much??

A work colleague asked me to have a look at the front tyres on her 12 plate Astra diesel.

The tyres were Bridgestone potenza IIRC 235 / 18" - they were fooked.

She was quoted £162 each. For tyres for a diesel Astra.

That's why people find wanli ditch finders appealing.

That why people run around in old shite.

235/18's on a kin Ashtray Deseaseal? Fuck me sideways when did they turn into a Porsche 911?

I have 18" Bridgestone Potenzas all round on mine, the fronts will need replacing at some point soon but I doubt it will be with 2 new Potenza's, but at the same time I always avoid the cheap Chinese tyres, maybe some good part worns but never gone down that route before.

Avon and Hankook usually offer good VFM.

Avon ZV5s were BOGOF when I replaced the ditchfinders on the Merc.

That was timely...

After a while away Avon are making some nice tyres at the moment for reasonable prices.

I had some ZV3's on my 406 HDI and it steered beautiful they lasted fine too.

lol sisters s max did that titanium on 18s

they needed two tyres at once

235.45.18

102 quid each plus fit

of theyd had the zetec version on 16s 51 quid or 62 for named brand

oh dear - ive said to them previously sell them on and get the smaller wheels :D

I was going to say I favour Continental. That size at National is £237.00 per tyre. I've made a mental note to bear this fact in mind when looking at cars.

Octavia vrs models with 18s on tend to need them every service (18k intervals)! Don't buy part worn on that size as they take an absolute beating getting them off and sidewall bands will be split. Trust me, I bent tyre levers!

Yep, replacement tyre prices has been part of me pre buy research for a good while now.

Some cars are getting ridiculous, i've delivered Diesel Insignias with 20" wheels, its getting beyond a joke.

It's ridiculous fitting a fucking diseasel engined hatchback with tyres like that. An Astra should have 155SR13s, with the option of 175/70s for the sporty ones.... ALLMODERNCARZISSHIT.

I hate Avon tyres with a passion- every one I've taken off a car has been knackered. Dunlop seem to be making a push again, and their prices are good. I've fitted a lot of tyres in the past 3 weeks and most folk go for the cheapest we can sell them... biggest set so far was 255/40/20's on a VW Amarock. Ouch.

Not a fan of Conti's either- they crack badly, especially round the tread circunference. Michelin's have lost their crown I reckon, and don't warrant the price premium, Falkens seem decent, but my fave brand, for cars anyway, is Vredestein. Got Pirelli's on the Volvo, which were standard fit, but they won't be getting replaced like for like.

My C4 HDi, with 92 rippling horses at the wheels (of a very generous dynometer) runs 205 55 16Vs. I thought that was insane in 2006 and I still do now.

It happens to be a very common tyre size nowadays, so I'm in luck. Prices run from about £40 [for a dog salad special] up to around £120 for whatever fanciful price Michelin want for one of their boots.

I can pay more for an Amazon tyre. Given that Firestone F-560s are useless and I refuse to run them my wallet takes a bit of a battering paying for the alternatives. You're limited to a couple of Continental models and Vredestein Sprints.

Instead you can enter the world of reanimated carcasses and pay £200 + for a newly produced Cinturato or ZX. Yes, I know the tooling had been mothballed and re-runs are pricey - but how much money do you think I've got?

Why the C4 (that can barely crack 110) needs V rated tyres is beyond me.

My Land Rover. 7.50x16. Normal price for the 10 ply Goodyears I run on tends to be about £180 a corner.  I just picked 5 up for £50. All with more than 12mm of tread on. Ex MOD Surplus, but since an Internet rumour last year about them all "exploding at speed" no bugger is touching them..... OK. Take my money! It was worth the 250 mile trip to get them. As for the modern.... 205/50/17W XL. They look ridiculous with such a thin sidewall. I'm upgrading to 225/4517W (Same rolling radius and won't look pinched on the rim) They are around 35% cheaper per tyre.... for MORE rubber. I don't get it. Is it down to popularity? Like kids shoes. Expensive for what they are, considering a pair of Adult shoes is half the price....

Anything less than a 55 profile and you run the very real risk of buckling a wheel in my opinion. There has to be some give in the sidewall given the parlous state of our roads - any less and you're sailing close to the wind.

we run a good number of boggo fiesta 1.4d vans. Tyres are 195/50(!!!)R15.

No spare just a can of goop. Had quite a few hit pothole and burst tyre.

Full recovery job. Real pain.......usually have to hire in a cover vehicle while tyre is sorted. Expensive

Sorry, but the thought an old Series Land Rover and speed in the same sentence made me smile.
