You could almost forgive it for anything.

Big sis had a 206cc. As an everyday car it's fine. little to dislike about it, but the rear seats are only any good for very small children. there is no legroom and no headroom. as in none at all.

I know about the lack of legroom - but the headroom is infinite ...

Who drives a convertible with the roof up, apart from when its raining?

I'm more concerned about the sunglasses needed to sit in its interior.

The Saab is a Peugeout 306. The hood is kaput on it but it is more mint than a polo otherwise.

I like the Ka but it is a two seater.

"I like the Ka but it is a two seater"

Are 4 seats really needed?

The rear seats of a top down convertible are a miserable place to be. The buffetting is hellish, they always seem to be much more cramped because of the space taken by the hood folding and hood up they are claustrophobic.

And the guy on the book depository roof can get a clear shot at you.......

They don't rust anything like as bad as normal Ka's as they are built by Pininfarina.

So were Lancia Gamma Coupes

The 306 is a looker and a 4 seater but I couldn't be arsed fitting a new roof to one as the cars themselves are so cheap.

it's partly my thoughts - sew it up and leave as is till you find one in a scrappy.

The Punto is sold so it won't be that!

am sticking to a £1,000 budget but I am tempted by this! I wonder how a catholic converter works?

Here is my 206cc Peogeut convertable car. 2002 model, very clean just had few issue with it. The car as fuse issue with the convertable button and also the catholic converter was down, need to be replace as you can see on the picture. Needs to be tax as the tax runs out this February and the mot as expired this month aswell.... Open for an offer. The car start and drive very well, just need few attention on it. When you repair the catholic and replace the fuse for the button to control the convertable. Here you ready for the summer. Pls feel free to call and ask me any question about the car... 07949966540

The MK3 Golf Cabriolets like the one Cort posted are good VFM because they are not really scened and often well looked after and pretty well put together, I have thought about one a couple of times but never happened.

Posted

My M plate Mk3 Golf Cabro was a cracking car, drove really nice and went pretty well for a 1.8, it did drip a bit of water in though and had a habit of breaking door handles.

I had a Mk3 golf cabriolet and have to agree its a very good convertible and has brakes and light steering unlike the Mk1...

You will easily pick a decent one up in budget... and to give you an idea I sold my P reg 1.8 which was truly immaculate with 68000 on the clock for £800 4 years ago.

Also it has decent rear leg room and a decent boot and the scuttle shake isn't too bad..

The weird thing I now have an Audi 80 Cabriolet and although it's nigh on twice the size I'm sure the golf had more rear leg room plus a heated glass rear window which you don't get in the Audi.

I've never tried one but I hear the later 1.6 is a better engine for performance and economy than the old 1.8 although the 1.8 is a reliable engine and in a detuned state will run forever and a day and I found that 35/40 mpg was achievable..

The only place I think you have to worry about for rot on the golf is the bottom of the front wings..

But if you take the front arch liners out every couple of years and clear out the old leaves and dirt once in awhile it's not an issue..

I can honestly say it's one of those cars I truly regret selling..and has seem to evaded the OMGVWSCENETAX at this point in time..

I have to agree about the wings rusting, my went on the O/S, I just bought a second hand wing in the same colour for £30 of eBay and swapped them over.

I paid £700 for the car a few years back and sold it a year later for £850, it had the electric roof and windows all round and only done around 74000 miles.

On an 02? Very, very late - I think the 206CC started on Y plate.

Get it bought!

206CCs are terrible cars, despite the Heuliez connection - and I'd forgive them a lot. They brought us the BX 4TC and the 405 Mi 16 Coupe.

MOTHA_WATANABE had one for many years on a 52 plate. It had a 1.6 litre engine which waged a never-ending battle with the kerb weight. The ride was punishing and not at all in keeping with Peugeot's standards. I imagine it had to use heavier duty spring and shock rates to keep the floppy shell in check.

With the roof raised it did a passable - albeit noisy - impression of a normal tin top. With the roof down it shivered and writhed over pot holes. You could feel it wobbling around the scuttle. Anyone over average height had their perhipheral vision obscured by the roof rail. I'm 5"9 and my eye line was at the very top of the windscreen surround with the seat ratcheted down as far as it would go.

Ignoring the wide grain plastics, the cabin wasn't a bad place to be. The alloy gear knob was a nice touch and the leather seats were well bolstered. The rear seats were utterly pointless and couldn't have taken children even on a short trip around the block. The boot was a decent size provided you didn't have the roof stowed in position. The mechanism never gave MOTHA any issue, but it leaked badly around the driver's side door seal and rust began bubbling up on the outer sills and then slowly erupted over the front half of the roof panel - pretty atrocious for a garaged, seldom used car. It did about 19,000 miles in six years.

It never failed to proceed, until it did the unforgivable. The clutch failed heading inbound to what turned out to be the last day my Nan was alive.

It ground to a halt in the car park of a rough pub and we left it there for a few days, utterly digusted with it. Had it been stolen, none of us would have cared.

I think it's still on the road.

Don't like the volkswagens. Neither of us want one, even if there are lots in budget. I'd have a 306 but she thinks they're too big. When the 206cc was quite new we nearly bought one. It'll be a 2 litre as the 1.6 isn't as good. We have driven both. Swmbo will live with a bit of scuttle shake. She ain't a rally driver. I always think they should have done a 1.8 option.

well, what did I buy?

Nothing! What a disappointing day.

Went to brisle to look at a 206cc and found it, roof down with three inches of water sloshing around the rear footwell. Turned round and walked away.

Looked at two others - one a 1.6 which was just too dear and needing a new wing mirror.

The other, a 2 litre but dear. Then went to try a 306 cabrio, found the place but all locked up ten minutes before they advertise closing!

I'm sure I've seen this around Martlesham Heath recently too Triggs

off to look at a 306 cabrio on the way home. Polish owner so will be interesting. Looking forward to the possible haggling!

It's on at £895 with twelve months MoT - which I think is about £150 too much as I can get the same for £795 with the long MoT and tax if I'm prepared to go a hundred and fifty miles.

and it was dented, sticky roof and a slight crack beginning on the rear window - with one cracked tyre sidewall and two other tyres close to the minimum. I walked away.

Did convince me that the 306 cabriolet is better drive and more comfy than the 206cc.

I really like the 306 - and certainly a better looking car and a better drive than the 206cc

Peugeot have made some fantastic coupes and cabriolets over the years

Having had the misfortune of owning an Audi 80 I now locate them firmly within the realms of 'shit' as opposed to 'shite'...

I have an issue with even the thought of owning an Audi. They stopped making cars I like in 1977.

It's ring-round time today and arrange to see some 306s at the weekend. Found a tidy secondhand roof for £99 and am tempted with the 21,000 mile 306 with torn roof at £830 and a tube of stormsure.
