03 reg petrol punto, lost keys!

I got into work today to find a rather miserable member of the night shift stood next to his punto, apparently he must have dropped his punto key at Felixstowe docks somewhere. His punto only had the one key.

I'm pretty sure he's now stuffed as it will be impossible to program a new key but have any Shiters got a clue on how to save the day?

You can re-programme new keys as long you can get inside the car (at least that's the case with most cars). I know this because my Mum lost the keys to her Polo a few years ago...so he may need one of these.

Apart from contacting a Fiat dealer for a bit of bummrapage I can't think of what else to try.

A local locksmith maybe worth a phonecall to see what they say.

I think Fiat stopped all that red key bollocks a few years before 03. It's probably going to mean a trip to the main dealer though.

You should be able to bend back the top of the door enough to get a rod/packing strap in to pull the interior door handle to at least get into it.

Although they dont do Red Keys anymore, I think a Fiat dealer will still supply Red keys and programme or whatever but it will cost a couple of hundred to do. Usually if keys are lost, it might just be a matter of getting into the car and finding a code somewhere to which a new key can be cut. I know some Rovers are like this.

Push the car in aswell, then turn round take a deep breath call insurance company and tell em ya Punto's been nicked, get a cheque from said insurance firm and buy more shite?

Unfortunately its a main dealer query to get a key remapped for the factory immobilisor, only Fiat will have the data to cut an original key.

Feel for the bloke though, this sounds like a right balls ache.

Buy a full lockset and transponder jazz from someone breaking one.

get on the web as they are people that can help!

Our IT fella lost the keys to his late 206 and it cost him £80 to have a bloke come out and get in the key and then do a key.

Was a local firm....I think the national franchise outfits charge more.....

I'll keep an eye open for it but it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack at that place!

Thanks for the input everyone. When I finished my shift I found the stricken punto had gone. Apparently it was driven away after the window was smashed and some electronic trickery was performed by a breakdown company.

I really feel sorry for the owner, especially as later on in the day a car key was found and handed into security! To be fair though, I don't know if it was the right one, but it was blue...

Fiat immobilisers are a PITA.  Probably not needed now, but there are people who advertise on the interweb who will bypass the immobiliser if you send the ECU to them.  Not sure how much they charge, but it's likely to be a significant percentage of the value of an 03-plate Punto.
