A sad day...CX for sale,

It is with a heavy heart that I have sadly decided to sell my Citroen CX GTI. With the dome jag coming in, and some health issues I'm concerned about keeping it on the road.

I'm in two minds about this as I can't tell you how much I love this car, they are like rocking horse poo as well and are getting tricky to find.

It's a 1985 CX25 gti these were always automatics and should not be confused with the turbo version. They are very much grand tourers in the traditional sense of the word. Made for lolloping across Europe at high speed but not at high Mpgs, you'll see about 28 on a good day.

Its a saloon on red, with the shitters ideal interior of beige twill with caramac and cowans toffee interior. There are no cx hatchbacks so don't fall into the trap, Its a fastback.

I will get some picks up asap.

I need to check the mot but taxed till end march.

Good points

Comes with two sets of wheels, one set of holey alphas with excellent nearly new tyres, I think they are Michelin, and the original cx alloys with a worn set of metrics one of which needs replaced.

The superb 2.5lt push rod lump, no dodgey porous blocks with this beast. The car has done 130k these engines can do 300k between rebuilds.

Although the CX looks fragile, they ate very tough cars. Usual French the important bits tend not to break whereas the plastic trim falls off with the regularity of a Gallic shrug.

Everything works

No sunroof, this IS a good thing

Comes with fag lighter, stereo with four speakers! Leccy windows up front.

Surface rust only, and I can only find it in the engine bay and very light it is too. The underside, sills and doors seem excellent. The car spent about 15 years in a heated garage mothballed by the owner before last.

Paintwork..usual Gallic job, some laquer peel on window sills.

Recent new front spheres and hydraulic flush

Not so good bits

One or two bits of trim need attaching

Dent and missing running strip on nearside rear wing, about 1/2" deep by 6" no stretching or damage to wing edge, the running strip needs reattached. Dent pulling and filling rather than welding job. Was going to do it before illness grabbed, its a hit whilst parked dent.

Rear spheres will need doing soon

Hydraulic pump being a bit lazy, suspect new belt needed or adjusted, again on to do list. This is detectable by heavy steering occasionally when slow maneuvering.

Alternator bushes will need doing as very dim charge light when running with all kit on, lights heater, fag lighter, wipers, stereo etc but very dim and battery is strong.

Starter usual lazy cx job but does the job, the starter circuit has been re wired to a button under the console, a common mod as the ignition switch always a weakpoint.

Could do with a service.

Auto box could benefit from a flush.

Is in daily use as main family car just now thanks to P38 gearbox

Gr9 car, uber cool and rapidly becoming a proper classic,

Price wise, well I paid 2300 for it in June. Given the 2do list a shitters price of £1100 is very fair and is good value, these cars are getting rare and are increasing in value. Gutted to see it go but I have to be realistic, and will need the time and funds to run the jag. I can only get away with one big cruiser and whilst I love the cx there are business reasons for the jag.

Go on, break my heart

Sounds lovely! That's very temptingly priced for such a sound one, can't think of cooler way of getting about!

Forgot to add the cooling fans need looking at, usual heath Robinson Citroen affair they actually have a fiendishly complex wiring system involving two thermostats. Most owners replace these with a twin mounted kenlowe or twin fans nicked from an Audi either plumbed into mercury thermos or with independent swithch.

Its safe to say that they were failing last summer and I sat on the M5 for 4hours in slow traffic at 80degrees outside and the car reached 94 degrees but didn't over heat. My plan was to either re wire to a manual switch or splash out on kenlowes.

I had a CX (in fact I had two) with twin leccy fans. They were ace for scaring old ladies when you stopped to let them cross on Zebras because they would suddenly cut in after the car had been stationary for a short while. They were very noisy and the poor old dears used to think you were revving up to run them over.

Whoever buys this car will be the proud owner of a rare beast that will need regular exercise to keep it fit. Like all big Citroens, not a car to run on a shoestring budget but if kept well maintained will be a superb way of getting from a to b or even z.

Incredible machines. Wired up the fans on my CX to a simple switch. That once reached 109 degrees in traffic before the wiring 'bodge' was put into place. I also froze the coolant in it. Amazingly tough engines!

Wow.  This is clearly a MEGA BARG.  I'd love a CX one day;  suspect I may be about to miss my last chance to pick one up for less than an arm and a leg.

Need to see pics, I'm not gonna buy, just want to lust after it.......

Just as well because I almost break my neck looking round at it every time it drives past! Its the only CX I've seen for a very long time.

Sorry I have thought about the instant gratifcation of buying your car and driving a lovely CX again, but realize it will be much better if I returned my CX 2400 I/E Pallas Auto to the road.

Mind has a wiring connection that stops it starting, which led to a small under bonnet fire. It damaged its HT leads which I have replaced and scorched the bonnet that was rusty so I have bought a replacement and been offered the grill that I damaged.

The hold up is I need to trailer the car but it's on its belly on an earth floor in a barn with rough ground outside and an upward slope to get out! I find scrambling around on the floor these days is difficult.

Have a free bump CXs are great to drive.

It's a V reg with about 130k miles, two inch lift with coils replacing the air suspension and has a winch bumper so fair to say the previous owner has been off roading. No air suspension is a good thing. Dents in bizarre places. Cat D at some point but the person I bought it off claimed to have no knowledge of this. The bonnet and n/s wing are new. Three amigos are needing reset. Mot April. For last mot a small hole in the chassis needed a welding repair. As I type this I realise I would be a mongoloid to sell it as it's too useful to me but I've been after a CX for yonks.

Should probably offload one of my series motors. Scooters, do you fancy adding a 2a to your land rover collection?
