The way I see it is that if somebody is prepared to pay top dollar for a car then its chances of survival for the next generation of enthusiasts must be much better.

I reckon if I win the lottery I'd be more than happy to buy a few cars off him, looks like he sells some lovely stuff. Pricey but if you want a really good one then they'll be dear.

Don't really see what the problem is, it is a free world.

Now there I see a problem - it isn't.

Apart from that, I don't see a problem.

He's just a car dealer, slapping on 50 gallons of cleaning products. As always buying from anyone, especially dealers, it's go in with your size 12's on, and go over the cars with a fine toothed comb. Just because a car is shiny, doesn't mean it's perfect, often that is far from the case.

I think my only problem is that smellycheese seems to think that someone's success is best rewarded by kicking their head in. Also, there are many punctuation issues and suitable threads for 'ranty' posts already exist.

I've always thought that the KGF fellow must be an interesting chap; I'd like to have a beer with him. Judging by the breathtakingly fabulous vehicles that seem to pass through his hands, he must have some good contacts to get hold of them in the first place.

But the reason I find him interesting is that people I've met before from the high end of the classic vehicle sales game have tended to have E-Types and Bentleys coming out of their ears. Which is absolutely fine but his willingness to take on (for example) Fiestas and Skoda Estelles marks him out as a WINNER in my book.

Smellmycheese's wording of his original post was probably unwise, but give the guy a break: after all, he quite openly admitted to a twinge of jealousy on his part, and was quite ready to concede that this could be the reason for his feelings towards the KGF chap. That's fair enough, as his job (presuming the business is profitable) must be the dream job of pretty much everyone here.

The other thing that makes me happy is the knowledge that given the prices his vehicles sell for, it's probably a reasonable assumption that the cars will be well looked after by their new owners - and are therefore safe from the crusher for a long time to come :)

Are we being slightly 'cheesist' here? Wasn't there much fun poked at 'Purple Helmet' recently for much the same sort of automotive retail methods?

Obviously could be wrong of course..

Ok, so wording has got my goat, though as much flack as Purple Helmet inspired, I don't remember anyone thinking that physical injury was a good idea. I shall go easy on the cheese for now.

I sold a car at a profit once. And I didn't even polish it.

Must admit to not seeing the bit about violence! That was a bit strong. Presumably 'smellycheese' is Italian and blue possibly.

Me also.... Though they do look like scale models photographed on a white table!

Never seen the whiteroom adds   but seen some of the doctors motors

Best of luck to them  but once you sell an older  motor outside its "sensible" price bracket you dont always get a sensible customer  , 6 out of 10 customers will be happy and go away never to be seen again  but the other 4 could well be on the phone everytime it sqeaks or rattles expecting it instantly  fixing or a partial refund  .

Nice to see adds that have been done properly and cars well prepared  , Makes a change from the upside down out of focus phone pics of a dirty car at dusk

Suppose it may all be down to price and expectation I guess. Some folk treasure their old cars and talk them up. Sort of like the advertising world in a way? If enough spin then someone will believe it. Fair enough.

I find KGF's adverts very interesting. Yes, they are long and most of the time just "stating the obvious"... but if everyone put as much effort into selling a car like this bloke, people buying cars would find it easier and a much more pleasing experiance. Im sick of seeing examples like -

1998 Ford Escort,

no history

tax n test

£600 located down south

Yes, the cars are usually expensive.. but i remember he had a Manta B Hatch for sale that was near show room condition with a price to suit.... and i knew it was a minter because I'd sat in the same car only a month before he put it up for sale and it was a true time warp..

Theres a 300 tdi disco on RR he selling for IIRC £3995? It near mint, with low mileage etc etc.. Ive seen sheds up for sale for £2k, and lets face it, you'll probably never see another mint disco 1 as long as we live beacuse they were all bummed around farms and through pay and play sites.

To be fair there are a few notable differences between Purple H and KGF.

Firstly effort, KGF offers beautifully presented and expertly described cars from a professional, confidence inspiring premises. If you follow him on Twitter or Facebook you'll see his cars are often sold within hours of being listed. Yes his cars are expensive, but when you have a special one off mint example of a rare classic why not be bold, and photos of smiling customers with thier new toy always follow up the sale.

Compare that to Purple H eBay listings. There's no comparison, they were appallingly half arsed. Also, in many cases the same car was sold on eBay by the previous owner only weeks before for a third of the price, and this could often be found in his feedback. Plus none of it was mint or unique, it was just expensive, hillariously expensive, with no justification. Lazy, rubbish, and a bit of a chancer.

Well said Alex, that's the reason Purple Helmet is now counting his chips, I wonder what happened to his old stock?.

KGF seem to have contacts all over the world, I follow their Facebook feed and a number of cars go to places like France, Denmark and even Australia, I think it's nice that he also follows up the sales with a little photo of the buyers too!

Ah, KGF.

Kick his head in? I polish my cars and like to sell them on for profit. I better go into hiding.

So what? He doesn't force people to buy them. And if people/you are daft enough to pay well over the odds for a rusty heap of junk with AutoGlym on it, more fool you.

He's probably laughing all the way to the bank. Good on him.

I think what we forget to realise is that we're not exactly his usual punter. He caters for people who probably run a new German car purchased out of a plate glass showroom where they're treated to the whole brand image and find the thought of a used car somewhat distasteful. That sort of car buyer doesn't mind paying top dollar for his Mk2 RS2000 "hobby car" as long as he's treated the same way as when he signs the lease on his new Mercedes every 36 months. If you asked him to buy blind on ebay and Megabus it down to Norfolk with a set of jump leads and a spare NSF suspension strut to fix and drive home he'd laugh in your face.

Horsley Horseless for courses really.

That unit he has will be costing him a fair few bob, that's a dead cert, even if it is in Peteboghorror

To be fair, looking at his cars they look a lot better than rusty heaps of junk that have been polished. The chap has some seriously nice motors that have clearly been pampered pretty much from new. Either that or they've been properly restored.

As you say, good on him.

They make excellent references for model car builders.

I'm not doubting the quality of most of his stuff, but that Skud seems less than up to his usual standards.

Wow, this is cleaner than my Dad's one, and his is James May clean. 2yvm3v7.png

I think the seller of it was getting desperate to flog it, and used KGF as an agent. Didn't get anywhere near the asking price

BMWs hide the miles well, but that really is superb.

There is some serious OCD like valeting going on there. Must spend days, if not weeks being prepped. I remember way back when in the old days when I was a valeter, a punter was picking up a used Onion from where I worked, and he was going over it wearing white gloves, and moaned when the tiniest amount of dust was found in the boot! He turned out to be one of those awkward ones where a minor squeak was a major disaster. This was on a 3 year old Onion..

I like to think I'm an OCD cleaner, but I draw the line at looking like a mad scientist in white gloves and a labcoat.

Those KGF motors are cleaner than clean. Fair play to chaps like him and The Doctor for selling normal tin for top dollar as it can't be that easy.
