Junkman's Mitsubishite - alive and kicking

Nice one.  Is it screaming its knackers off at 85?  I had the earlier shape Colt with an auto 'box and it was doing nearly 5,000 revs at that speed.

Damn good car those little colts.

Well bought sir.

Check the condition of the front wishbones as the ball joint has been known to pop out if a little worn.

Cracking car, best of luck with it.

Wonderful stuff Junkman. I seem to vaguely remember those little shelfs, they are pretty useless.

I'd like to put my name on the list to have it when you're done with it. :)

Looks a good buy that! I had the equivalent Lancer, also a 1.5 bader spec, it'd max out at either 105 or 110, I cant remember which, but it was pretty good going for a 3 speed effort! I did about 15K in it I seem to remember, and it never ever missed a beat :)

Looking for a photo I took of the same year of Lancer that was owned by someone who worked in a restaurant near me, I think it's gone now though. :(

I love this shape/era of car.

This is very nice. Straight lines are good.

'DL' is definitely the Isle of Wight identifier. Originally issued by Newport, from 1980 it was issued by Portsmouth for the island as the 'IoW series'...

Don't you like the auto?

I finally figured out what the shelf is there for.

You can rest your hand on it when adjusting the heater/blower.

F reg! A ver late registered one. The next generation Colts and Lancers came out on an E reg, if I recall correctly.

Looks really nice by the way! :)

Nice little motor. Suitably grim interior and exterior, love it!

OK, we got it back from the garage, where the rotten fuel filler neck has been repaired properly.

A previous owner had botched it with a bean tin and gaffer tape, so we couldn't fill her up without half of the expensive pez running down the drain.

Assuming that it didn't get that bad since last August again strengthens my opinion regarding the pointlessness of the British MoT test.

Now, I really need a manual for it, but apparently, there is no Haynes (?).

I found this:

Are those any good?

I'd hate to spend £11.50 on a book that doesn't tell me more than I know already.

How was the filler neck repaired? I've got a similar fault on the Sirion. Doesn't leak unless I fill the tank, so I've just been not filling the tank.

Ooh I say, well bought sir.

That's the absolute spitting image of the car I learnt to drive in, even down to the colour - identical apart from the fact that I had a trio of pedals and a wiggly lever between the front seats. It was fairly old for a school car when I was driving it - D reg in 1994 - but it put up with the abuse and did exactly what it was supposed to do.

The instructor replaced it a couple of years later with a Proton - mainly, I think, because he wouldn't have to update/replace all his handouts containing immensely detailed hand drawings of the dash layout, switch layout etc.

They took it out, cut the rotten section out and welded it back together with a piece of exhaust pipe that was just slightly larger in diameter, thus forming a sleeve for a couple of inches.

Thank you, sir.

Is that what's commonly referred to as 'old school'?

Quite possibly, hope parts prices don't get affected by old school tax now I've said that.

I'm nowhere near as old school as Mrs_N, who quite frankly is so old school that there isn't a school, just a patch of land that the kids walk across on the way to their chimney sweeping jobs. Such trickery as ABS, rear disc brakes, turbochargers and overhead camshafts will never darken her side of the driveway.

They do mine, I have to admit. I have a 1970 Rover 2000.

SWMBO's verdict: "It's like driving a sports car."

I have to agree. It's really nice to drive.

Welcome to the shitsubishi club - I have the even shitier booted Lancer version also in giffermatic transportation mode.

Great car and doubt i'll part with it anytime soon.

If you need any spares let me know I don't have much but might be able to assist.

Thanks you so much for your offer and that is one fine motor you have there, sir.

Well, mine will receive a full service this weekend (weather permitted) and then treated to a trip to Blackpool, where a gearbox for my P6 needs to be picked up.

Originally allegedly an IoW car, then trundling around in Sarf Lowdown for a decade, it struggled to reach 50 in the beginning, but it's running better the more we use it. Wifey takes it on the M60-Ring twice a day, which must have blown most of the carbon buildup off the valves by now.

It has a blow from the exhaust now, though.

Mine was the same when I got it. Was a 26,000 gen mile motor. Did a service and swapped the air filter and been great since now just clocked 30k. Not the fastest motor I own but definitely the most comfy.

Today I did something similar to a service.
Cleaned out the engine bay, replaced Air filter, plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor.
Couldn't be arsed to do the oil change though, because it was freezing cold and raining sideways.
