Best Shite in the shit (weather)

The best 2wd vehicle I have ever come across in the snow was my old Boxer 1.9d swb van with m+s tyres on .

Totally empty , all the weight ( inc fuel tank) is over the driving wheels.

Tyre pressures down to about 15 ish psi combined with almost no torque/power meant it barely ever broke traction.

Went past several freelander type 4wd cars (on road tyres ) up hills in the snow. :-D

Wonder if my Hdi powered ducato will be as good ? Not that I will find out soon living in Cornwall.

I also find that many years of riding enduros/ trail riding has meant I can feel for grip / pick my lines pretty well.

My best ever vehicles in snow were my Austin Champ & even  better my twin engined Estefette van, traction on that with its skinny michelin x tyres and engine weight over both sets of driven wheels was amazing.

Brilliant heater & auxillery one in back.

Worst car  by far was Renault 5 with rear brakes clamped off, that was a nightmare.

My Volvo is decent in shit weather. Impervious to slush, floodwater, snow and high winds.

Ideal for driving across Scottish moors on Christmas day listening to Swedish music.

My W124 was pretty decent on the snow as long as you left the parking brake on a couple of notches to sort the diff out.

Hey good tip Warren, cheers.

I'm hoping to get a mild winter though, no sign of snow or even frost so far.

I've always got a Land Rover of some sort around, that the missus nicks at the first sign of snow . As my alternatives are usually rwd auto barges , I resort to the ultimate snow day car. An MX5, they're light and never get stuck, also a bit of snow makes them feel like they've got 500 bhp and turn even me into a OMGDRFTINGOD!

The downside is I can't drive em with boots on and can't get in with the hood up, people just think I'm a bit eccentric ,either that or a twat.

I was speaking from personal experience of driving my Dads E39 in the snow
