Believed to be one of a kind

Thank god for that, I'd hate to be confronted with another one.

I'm sure it IS very nice but at a glance, could you really tell the difference between that and the other trillion 911s of the same era that are knocking about?

"Ahh but I paid the price of a house for mine..."

"Why?"

"Because I'm a flash git and a terrible person... and frequently burn £20 notes in front of tramps before giving them a swift kicking..."

"Oh, OK. Fair enough. Each to their own, I guess"

Actually includes the phrase 'Great Value!'

$_57.JPG

No, 'Great Value!' is a 1.3kg of broken biscuits, containing no less than 12 Jammy Dodgers (one which was a triple decker!) for £2.76.

£43k for an old Merc, even a nice one like this, is not 'Great Value!'. It's just alot of money.

poor show by that 4* Classics shower - surely they must vet the vehicles that pass though their gleaming white portals? Obviously not.

Recent MR2 that was advertised for 12 grand, before decending slowly to about 6grand. I think it's still on their site.

It wasn't 'showroom condition', the rear arches had body filler. You can tell when plastic is new and when it has been 'back to blacked'.

'Tax Exempt'

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1973-Triumph-TR6-TAX-EXEMPT-/380639391252?hash=item589fe02e14

I'm sure if you could afford to waste 25k on one of these any form of tax would be somewhat of an alien concept, therefore as a selling point, tis moot.

As an aside, my old man used to have one and sold it just after I was born (84). He got rid because he got fed up with people telling him he had to 'look after it & never drive it & keep it wrapped up in cotton wool'. I'm sure many here can see the reason why he got annoyed with that 'logic'...

I had the displeasure of working on one of those once. It was red and therefore fooled everyone.

also "Buick based 3500cc V8" is a masterful bit of spin.

Those Astras look great!

...When they're being crushed into tiny pieces.

Nothing much wrong with those Astras, whether it's a 1.6 or 1.8.  A good session with the T-Cut and that's one seriously tidy car with 11 months MOT for £250.

LOL!

The "victim" turned up on an Audi forum, he had a lucky escape....

You may have seen the 100 in Tibet Orange which was for sale recently at a dealer who may be related to 4 Star petrol!

I negotiated a Mike Brewer style deal and bought it for £18,000. Okay, a very high price but, if you had seen the pictures, you would realise that it was in fabulous condition, or was it?

Having driven 150 miles home in true 70s style I decided to change the oil - just to make sure. What came out can only be described as sludge. Following that revelation I had a go at the coolant. NO COOLANT! Only severe rusty water. Having refilled both and been on a drive to thoroughly warm it up I left it overnight. Next morning, top hose, flat as a pancake and enormous hiss when the radiator cap was removed - blown head gasket.

Worse was to come. Removing some of the stuck down carpet in the boot revealed some severe rust with holes where you could see the ground! A badly welded panel completed the disaster.

To be fair to the dealer. No hesitation on giving a full and total refund so full marks to them. They were selling it on commission and as far as they were concerned it was as good on the inside as the outside looked.

I offered £10,000 to buy it in its current state but this was refused, so be on the lookout for it reappearing elsewhere!

All this stuff is why I think people buying cars seriously should own a Borescope. There are some cheap ones about now, which can be set up to work over USB on an Android phone/tablet with the right sort of ports - but the 5.5mm ones can fit down dipstick tubes and be wriggled into cylinder heads through breather or oil caps, let alone taking a quick tour inside cavity sections, inner arches and the like. They're not going to capture amazing digital images - the cameras are analogue CCTV type with frame-grabbers where equipped - but what looks like a dull, blurry still is pretty informative as a live video feed.

Even the top end of the market is about £300 - above that and you're into thousands for medical-grade or construction work, usually fibre-optic feed. For that investment, you can see inside every car you look at - from just taking a quick peek at how much brake pad is left, to inspecting welding work/rustproofing, valve condition (wish I'd had this when I was offered a non-running Alfa, as I could have verified absolutely if the valves were bent). And the fact you're using something like that also encourages you to be vigilant enough to, I dunno, lift the boot carpet to see what it's like. You wouldn't buy an SD1 without checking the spare wheel well...

Is that all? Sounds like a handy piece of gear..

On Amazon there are WiFi ones - with up to 5m camera snake - claiming 2Mp files. They link to your smartphone to use as a display, and they're around £70. 8.5mm camera modules. I can't recommend one outright as I haven't seen one, but £70 is what I paid for my Lidl one a couple of years back, and it doesn't record stills or video, is an 11mm camera and is slightly less than a metre long.

Look for models that provide attachments. The Ring one I have has a hook, a magnet and a 45° angled mirror. The LEDs reflect off the mirror so the picture isn't always clear, but it's good for looking "up" into the combustion chamber. The hook has the potential to save very expensive mistakes if things get dropped down the manifold...

Duly noted! Thanks!

Dull car, but you can't argue with the condition really. I don't think that's unreasonable at the start price.
