Ok not much has been happening with this. Got in it today to start it and has started to go mouldy in places where something's been spilt or he pissed him self or something.

I have been acquiring parts for this but over Xmas money is tight so I have been buying wisely.

Waiting for a cam belt kit I ordered from renault who have a parts website with a few Williams bits on it. It's free delivery but stuff takes ages. Some stuff is mega bucks but some not so bad.

This morning I got up and stripped the interior as it was awful and I have bought a used one down in reading just got to go get it.

e4u9a4ys.jpg

But mainly I just haven't had time due to pissing about doing the old pad up.

Anyway have a pic of the autoshite calendar displayed in the garage.

This finally gains pride of place in the garage.

My stag has gone, but only to my dad, who had a few when he was younger, he had it for what I paid so he was happy.

So thought I better crack on at having a proper look at this.

u5e6a2ut.jpg

So got it up on stands to start getting it roadworthy and have a gander.

Rear discs are past there best I would say. Some major cracks in them. Got some so no worries.

The otherside wheel was proper rusted on and took plenty of whacks to get it off.

any4esy4.jpg

You can see no cracks this side but the wheel had properly rusted to it.

I think I can say the previous owner was not the chief engineer for NASA.

vade6u6e.jpg

He likes cable ties. I also like cable ties. But not as much as him.

rame6u7y.jpg

The exhaust is pretty knackered and is blowing so going to get a new system, however I have spend loads this month on random crap, so it will have to wait.

e5agy9e2.jpg

Started by doing the service items and this plug was covered in oil, as it looks like the rocker cover gasket is leaking.

And just at that time my dear lady announced dinner was ready, so I gave up for the day.

Is it the F7R engine as in the Megane Coupe? If so I didn't find it too bad just moving the engine up and down, a morning's work for the belt. Might be a tighter fit in a Clio though!

Had the same issue with a leaking cam cover gasket too...

Is that a williams? bird has a 172, and I have to say I'm fair taken with small buzzy French hatches with redonkulous engines in them:)

good work, looks a nice car, just needs some loving!

re sparkplugs, I know on the f4r in the 172, the plugs are 72k service intervals and £50 a set!

on the timing belt front we paid a specialist to do it-apparently if it has air con, its a front bumper off job,.our specialist did a great job, worth it for the peace of mind.

Green. With. Envy. (Not really. Well, just a bit. Okay, a lot. I admit.)  A thing of beauty and joy. I get the feeling you're uncovering more things to be fixed as you go along. I'll watch this thread in case I ever happen across a cheap one, because any cheap Williams will probably be the same!

@Station: is the 172 okay to live with on a daily basis? (Sorry in advance for any thread hijack!)

Yo everyone....

This thing has been in my garage getting in the way, every time I need to work on other shizzle this is in the way. I have to work outside when I have a ace garage that is big enough to get a car in and work on it.

I started this yesterday and I was mega chuffed, probably a year maybe since it last run, put some oil down the bores, built the pressure up and it started and ran lovely.

5c37135102bb054657112352364f793a.jpg

So today I went out with mega enthusiasm to get going again.

Then I started proper poking about. I have before, but I blocked it out my mind saying a quick waz of filler and it would be fine.

Both inner wings are fubarbed.

5128cdc335d81118bfd0c7f39aeeedd2.jpg

This is probably the best bit on the sills the rest are pretty crusty and a hammer causes mild displeasure as it crumbles.

79138a1abda8ccb8e774d19357376543.jpg

This is after a slight gust came through the garage and the arch started to fall off.

I have fitted a cambelt (a bastard), all new brakes, all new service bits, new interior.

Got loads of other bits too do.

Anyhow enough rambling, I can't weld so will need to pay someone to sort the bodywork. This I know is gonna cost.

Is it too far gone???????????????

Help me international rescue.

Also lol at me putting rust cure on today. Yeah that will sort it won't it. Nob head.

Ouch! Unless you find a good shell with knackered mechanicals and swap them around, that's going to be some welding bill. Chances of that are slim though, Sports tend to be all good or all bad.

Actually that's true of these Clios on the whole. The ones I've had bits from in the scrappy tend to be okay, or terrible. Not much in between.

I know inner wings are still available, and normal clio sills can be made to fit, its just arch panels that are nla, but shirley a good fabricator/bodyshop could square that away.

I am not too fussed about chucking money at it, I have always wanted one and even if it was far too gone would squirel it away somehwere till i won the I Irish lotto or summat.

Obvs at the moment my bank account probably has enough in to keep a Ethiopian from going blind for a day or summat.

So it aint getting done soon.

Cya in 2043 clio.

Till then looks like I am working in the rain.

You're doing the right thing, playing the long game. Properly sorted, it'll be a good drive and worth a bob or ten.

I don't think they're going OSF batshit crazy just yet, but... I was hearing about a V-reg (i.e pre-facelift) Sport that needed much welding. So the owner took it off the road, got it done over a few months, and has it back on the road as a dry days/weekends plaything. It's a rolling resto now, because he's aware that early ones are thin on the ground. Thinking ahead!

Well I was proper thinking about selling this old dog, projects are fetching 1500 odd quid.

But instead I had a change of heart and spunked loads on bits.

First of all was this back box from Renault parts direct.

0604c8c90dbf1944254238895424b77e.jpg

It arrived and I rang up straight away, moaning it had a massive kink in it.

Renault parts man after getting a earful from me

"There meant to be like that pal, it goes over the rear axle"

Me

"oh"

"sorry"

84ac00da94551f695c5f6883b8c34f4b.jpg

Was 150 odd quid for the back box and the fitting kit of clamps and what not.

b2dbfaeaa1a489d381453ec3c17397b3.jpg

Some yoof messed about with the rear bumper to fit a Jetex system, but it had a massive hole in the back box, hence the new Renault item, connects nicely up to the rest of the system, which is in ace condition.

47e7e34cfbed565a5aa631c192b24415.jpg

Next up was getting this rad fitted, easy job and no bumper, bonnet or anything in the way really. Was nice.

4f095eaa4d53ed752d9ccfac48a7dcd2.jpg

Had to solder the temp sender wires as they was hanging off. But I now had a temp gauge that worked.

So decided to start the old bird for the first time in donks.

https://vimeo.com/143479707

A tad tappy tap tap, but fired up nicely.

51f0a0c69a9fde47d5bb427ab6f72eb0.jpg

Which meant she could see some daylight.

And meant I could start on cleaning my garage, as it was full of crap.

efcef639cb9c1d8d44f85b4653fb8e2a.jpg

Once running for a while, it quietened up.

https://vimeo.com/143480060

It boiled it's coolant out of the expansion tank after 15 odd mins and had no brakes. But you know.

It got some fresh air.

How did that fireplace get into a seventies house? Seventies stuff IS fashionable now, at least John Lewis thought so last year.

Back to the topic, a mate of mine had one of those when they first came out, Him'n it was on the front cover of one of the motoring mags. Hopefully someone will post a scan to verify this bit of useless information.

I always thought these looked cool, glad to see it being pampered. Actually I think I have a bit of a guilty secret about liking them because of the blue with gold wheel thing. :o liked the impreza for this too :o

Just to veer off topic again, hope you don't mind me asking, is the yellow bike a Ribble with campag groupset? I've just got one and can't find anything about its age/model name etc.

Is the welding finished then?? ;)

Don't be silly it's just a little bit more rotten than last time, when I lowered it down from the axle stands, much crunching was heard.

However............. When it's quite at work, our fabricator at work has been teaching me the basics of mig welding.

It's a 1930's house. Original 30's fireplaces kept, all other 60's, 70's, 80's stuff sent to the tip. Did sell some bright orange curtains on eBay for a nice sum though.

I have loads of 90's mags with williams articles in, I will have a gander.

It's a Bianchi pista, I bought miss T one so we could be extra UN cool and both ride fixies.

Well D day came for this yesterday.

9a3a83ee32cfb1da8508f1c16cba00e2.jpg

It had been doing my head in a for a while, always in the way when I ever I wanted the garage, and I had to work outside in the drive, usually in the rain when I had a nice warm garage.

I had sort of forgot about it and was spending loads on go faster bits on the saab instead of sourcing parts for it.

Also I had gone to look at a couple of Clio 182 trophys but was disappointed at the condition of a 05 ish plate clios where peeps wanted 5k plus. And would need to stash one of these in the garage.

So I listed it on eBay with a 99p start and no reserve. It went BONKERS! Every 3.1 seconds someone was asking me to end the auction early for so and so.

I would of been happy really with about 1200 ish but I kept getting better and better and better and better offers.

However a shiter contacted me, a no nonsense offer was made which I was happy with and he was, I could of got more but it was way above what I wanted at the start. As usual a nice easy transaction that all went smoothly with shiters.

Then an eastern European fella in a knackered transit turned up and took it away.

7784c3673f36fc9bd02f2c32ace30ad8.jpg

Then I cried a little.

P.s I bought the James Taylor p6 book to read and have just read his w124 book, so who knows what's next.

Probably a c90.

Also when I boot eBay up my first search is always for Citroen zx's, only Buddha knows why this is. Odd.

Delighted to say that I am the new custodian!

Despite it being mostly Italia-shite that floats my boat, this is the car that the 18-year-old me really wanted and therefore when this was listed on ebay it was straight on the watch list, when I found out it was a chap from this forum I was straight in there. It's probably my last chance to get one at this price point as values seem to be rocketing.

Indeed, shiply provided a chap with an old transit who's only English seemed to be swear words but it arrived safely and is now tucked up in a garage awaiting me getting stuck in which will probably start in August when I can throw loads of time

Thanks of course go to Dan who was a gent throughout the process.

Remember when it's done I want a look.

Here's what you could've had if you want such a tool, and your middle name wasn't "half a job"
