Three weeks ago I hired a van and borrowed a scaffolding plank and travelled to South Lincolnshire to collect this -

I had seen it on fleabay but did'nt get chance to bid - it never sold so I offered less than the reserve but slightly more than the top bid.My offer was accepted.

The first owner had the bike from new until his death in 2009, it was then put in his wife's name and did'nt move for a while. The bike was then sold to somebody local who got it road legal and changed the fluids - he then sold it to me.

The bike has 22K on the clock and still has the original cans. It came with a datatool alarm and alpha dot marker, as well as a tank bag.

It also has a service book - WITH STAMPS IN IT! Is this a first for a motorcycle?

So what is it like to ride? It is very user friendly with a good riding position (it reminded me of a GSX550 I had many moons ago - even the colours were similar). Lots of power from 3K onwards, you could easily lose your licence riding it. My old GSXR750 made no power below 8K, and was painful to ride in comparison to the busa.

I am on the lookout for a seat cowl preferably in the right colour, and I will fit braided hoses in the spring to give the brakes a bit more bite. It is currently hibernating with the SD1 but if the shitty weather lifts I may venture out on it at some point.

Well played sir, those are great machines.

The first owner was probably the only owner of one of these to die and leave a working bike.

That's an astonishing machine, sir ! Supercar-beating performance for real-world money.

It's such a pity that the performance is not accessible to everyone ; I reckon that someone like myself would be dead within the first week of owning any motorbike over 125cc.

Lovely, simply lovely. I never got to ride a Blackbird which was a serious 'want' prior to my accident and then I just thought the 'Busa was a whole new ball game. Excellent buy indeed.

Nice bike.  Although I, like our counterfeit philosopher friend, would be dead within minutes of buying a 'Busa.

You didn't miss much not riding a Blackbird. I had a go on a mates once and it felt exactly like my VFR750. No drama, no unintentional wheelies just a smooth Honda riding experience.

Then I looked down at the speedo........ Oh FUCKIN HELL! :o

Thank you for your replies gents.

I had been looking for an early unrestricted one with this colour scheme as hopefully they will be the ones collectors look for in years to come, assuming I dont put it in the scenery beforehand.
