Dolly, g**gle is suggesting two routes down to you. Would you say go for the northern one, or south through Newtown etc?

Also, are any Shiters coming from/via the North-West of England meeting up somewhere before the border checkpoints on Friday afternoon?

Newtown is pretty grim, and usually choked with traffic. If you can find it, there's an entertaining mountain road between Machynlleth and Ponterwyd, which brings you nicely into Devil's Bridge. Otherwise you're driving down the Dyfi estuary, which is also nice.

gonna be doing the hugely squiggly bit from newtown to llandrindrod :D

then rhayader then devils

via the back way into northwich crewe then from oswestry :D

Ooh, thanks!

But:

Suggested route: A483
192 mi, 5 hours 17 mins

Scotland will be coming via the NW but dunno what our timings will be...

Unfortunately I shall not be attending in the 205, which I have been working on getting fixed for this weekend for the last 6 months. The list of little niggley jobs is growing the more I think about it.

It runs and drives okay, and I went out for a spin tonight (it is fucking rapid with the tuned XUD9TE) but it is impossible to get it MOT'd for next weekend.

This is very sad news, considering that all six of us who were nearly killed to death last year in the thing are all going this year. I rather hoped for a retrial :(

To further improve* the lift-off oversteer, it now has the bonus addition of a steady trickle of used engine oil from the back of the sills into the path of the rear wheels.

Well , I survived my first trip to Wales of the Month. 2 days amazing trail riding centred around Rhayder. Bit stiff now mind and back to reality with a bump . Better give the golden nugget a once over before I head up on fri I suppose.

Dads Bx seems sweet and he has been using it locally so I hope it makes it ok .

Oh and if anyone from down west wants to come but has car issues you are more than welcome to sit in the velour palace that is my Saab

This looks like the venue, with D.Wobbler's old Maverano at the back :D

If people are interested in some mid 80's top trumps and late 90's early 2000's copies of Cars and Car Conversions, then I will bring some freebies to give away next weekend.

My great clear out has stalled and this will be a good way to get back on track.

That`s it !

Nope. Not my Mavrano - that one's a long wheelbase and is presumably the one the hotel owned. I did raid it for a few parts but it has gone for scrap now. That is the public car park. To the right is the area we'll use, with a camping field behind that. You do enter the car park as indicated in Joe's link.

You may well spot my Mavrano though, as the chap who owns it sometimes works at the hotel.

The topic has come up before but I still don’t know which car to bring?

Originally there was talk of gathering the 3 Maserati Biturbos know to be amongst us but as I have not seen anything about the other two recently I take it they are not ready and as I took mind to Wales 5 weeks ago it seems a bit of a repeat.

My head says Visa Diesel which is reliable with low cost but I have bought it to an Autoshite event before and two weeks ago drove it around Holland.

That leaves the very untested 1994 Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe that broke its water pump belt tensioner  that is now repaired with a screw and araldite glue because we could not buy a new part even in the USA. Trouble is horrid on fuel and only a few miles since we owned it.

Then tomorrow I collect the Free Mercedes 200TE auto, if it runs well maybe I should bring that?

What should I bring, help me decide?

Posted

The Eldorado sounds quite risky, so clearly that's the best option. Keep the Merc in reserve - like I did when the Disco failed on the way to Shitefest '13.

The only way I could work this would be to come on Friday afternoon and leave Saturday late morning, to drive to fookin Norfolk to collect my daughter from school which finishes at 4pm on Sat.

I could do this in my almost modern Alfa 156 but where would the fun be in that?  Volumex is fooked, Landy is just too much arrrrrrrrrrrrrgggghhhhh for Oxon - West Wales - Norfolk- Oxon, so that leaves a shonky rustbucket Italian car with not enough power and a  non motorway friendly noisy Barryboy gearing that will still be a pretty much unknown quantity after being collected this very day.   Hmmmmmm, WCPGW?

To aid restful sleep (not behind the wheel) I would prob have to zizz in the hotel and complain in voluminous emails and letters and OMG Trip Advisor about the collection of social undesirables in the car park.

Feggit, I am ringing the hotel now.

I've escaped from bus duty on Friday, so I'll probably be there from about lunchtime.
