it does a bit, i though it looked a bit like a kia picanto

That's quite horrible with some quite revolting interior plastics. Thoroughly deserves its Datsun badges - they were always interesting to look at rather than pretty (swb Z cars excepting). If Dacia continues to do well, maybe they will bring it over?

Tiny wheels

Brian Cant will be able to roll out his old quip about the plane full of Japanese car parts that had to jettison its cargo.

Yes - it was raining Datsun Cogs.

I'll save up for the Dacia Logan thanks.

Is the 99p Ebay phone holder included as standard?

Another bland tin box on wheels with a nauseating beige dashboard.

It's got a shit name as well. It's not as if Datsun don't have some classics in the archive they could have resurrected, if they're really that short of inspiration.

how much do you wanna bet they got the plastics from the Tata bin?

its not very original is it?

Why Datsun, not Nissan? Is that an umbrella handbrake there, or just something that resembles one?

i dont know, maybe nissan wants more cash to come in so there bringing Datsun back has a sub-brand and flogging cheap and nasty cars to country's who dont care about quality or image? i like how datsun is coming back.

Even in the pictures, it makes my Cit C3 look classy.

Those plastics are just horrible!

I see something of the new Dacias in that - could it be related?

Dacia > Renault > Nissan > Datsun ??

I noticed the phone holder too, unless they're bundling a £50 Navigon and claiming it has Satnav.

Doesn't look terrible - certainly better than some Indian "city cars" like the CityRover. Can't say I'd be tripping over myself to have one of those over and above a £7k used car... pay £7k on a secondhand Kia C'eed and you'll still have remaining warranty.

Front is nicely styled, rear is a bit meh..... I think they got bored and went to the pub just after the B pillar. There's an odd fake rear window thing going off too to disguise the Mk3 Golf levels of C-pillarness.

i totally agree with you, its much better than the equivalent tata indica. and its being sold in country's who dont care about quality. and if you think about, it a nice little sort after car.

What you have to remember is that it is just that - an affordable small car for developing countries.  If it was imported here you'd want it to be very cheap.  The expectation of new car buyers in Europe is much higher and if this was brought up to that acceptable standard there'd be no point - there's the Micra already and the price would be too high.

My understanding is that Datsun is a new name to most young people but one that does have a heritage.  They don't remember the days when the cars were slated and in a lot of these countries the Datsun image was not the same as the blinkered one over here.

I know I'm biased having 3 Datsuns in my fleet but I do think they deserve to succeed and I think it's a cool idea reviving the name for a budget brand.  After all, the large cars like the Cedric and Laurel were never given the same credibility here as the smaller cars and in the domestic market Nissan predominated anyway.  One of the reasons Datsun was used here in the first place was to differentiate from wartime Nissan products so that grandpa wasn't too offended.

I'm not sure calling it Cherry or Sunny would have worked though.....

The Tata Indica was sold over here. It was the ShittyRover CityRover, and it was a massive flop, because people over here found it rubbish in general. By that logic, the Datsun wouldn't sell here (I'm speculating about quality) - that said, I'm seeing a lot of Dacia Dusters, so maybe it would - there's a market for the budget makes. It's all swings and roundabouts. If they did sell it here, it'd be trying to rival the Dacia Sandero though, and I'm not sure how well they're selling (much worse than Dusters it seems).

I like the 2CV handbrake.  And the stereo with just a USB and line-in jack next to a handy phone holder makes a whole lot of sense.

I could see these selling well to old giffers trading up from a Perodua Nippa.  Although they probably wouldn't know how to connect a phone to the stereo.
