Oh shite what have I just brought!

Been looking for a cheap reliable runner that was capable of long runs, and just brought a perodua kelisa on an 02 plate for 400 tax and mot for a year. But I have never had such a small engined car and it seems to struggle to get to 60 is this normal, it will get there but it's a long long time! Other car is a tdi defender but that seems like lightening!

Anyone had one, any hints or info on them?

Going to give it an oil flush and change this week then see if any better.

Is very nippy at low speeds though!

A lorry went past me on the way home and I felt like it was about to get blown off the road, lol!

Any info appreciated!

They're the same as a L701 Daihatsu Cuore, 1 litre 3 cylinder engine.  If you think that's slow, try driving the larger Kenari with that engine with an automatic gearbox attached to it.  They're generally really reliable, though I've seen a couple with stiff clutches that lead to the pedal box fracturing.

I actually had to google it.

Well, if anything else than the clutch gets stiff, you might run outta space, but they sure look like they are 24ct shite.

Peroduas are for winners !!! I actually drove one of them new Myvi things a few months ago, and it was very pleasant, in a tinny '90s jap hatchback kind of way.

On a slightly different note, I've been reliably* informed that the company is going to pull out of the UK soon, which may drive the prices of those marvellous machines even closer to the 'shitters budget.

Theres one that runs round my estate. Always sounds like its struggling 30mph.

Must be pretty grim flat out.

You really bought a 3-pot Perodua and thought it good for long runs?

I have a couple of small engined Daihatsu's and I try not to use them for long journeys if possible, They are city cars and not at home on the motorway, If you're planing on using it on the motorway my advice is to stick with the trucks doing 50-60.

I've now realised long runs are out of the question!

May be a stupid question but will R14 tyres fit the13inch rims on the perodua?

Looking forward to a good run out tomorrow in it... Will report back tomorrow :-)

My Daewoo Matiz with a 796cc three-pot was a buzzy ol' beast on a motorway. Fact - one will do 100mph downhill. A very steep hill. At which point the rev limited kicks in. All of these tiny orientals are only city cars really. Would quite like a Kelisa or Kenari,

Allegedly, a Kelisa will get to 60mph in 15 seconds, whereas a Defender Tdi is about 21 seconds. A Defender has actual torque though, so would feel a very different animal in performance terms, whatever the paper figures say.

Yes, that is a stupid question!

Isn't a 3-pot perodua something that pretentious folk living in designer apartments buy to put trailing geraniums in for their balconies? Long runs being for the larger balconies?

Yes. as long as you extent the rim by one inch in every direction.

I told you it was a Stupid question!! You wouldn't believe I've got a PhD,lol!

Don't be daft, it's one inch total, so half an inch all the way round.

Maybe a rigorous service will unleash a couple of cc's. Unlikely mind but always worth a go and wouldn't actually do any harm.

I WAS being quite daft. Lesson learned.

No...they really are that shite, cheap for a reason etc which makes them perfect for the struggling shiteist on a budget.

If it's anything like my Alto you'll soon get fed up of being overtaken by everyone, people laughing at you and everyone cutting you up.

Well done sir, I believe that car was the cheapest new car you could buy in this country at about 5k. Bears more than a passing resemblance to the original mini too, I should imagine the performance is similar as well. What made you think it'd be good for long runs? Must be terrifying.

If it's anything like my Daihatsu Cuore's you can actually see the top of the door frames vibrate when you go over 60mph.

Blimey. It's a modern day 2CV!

Isn't that normal? Suspect it is on here.

For the benefit of shiters like me who don't know what a Perodua Kelisa looks like:

I quite like the look of them, really they are supposed to be fun little city cars, not long distance/motorway cruisers. I used to pass one everyday on my way to work and thought it looked like a fairly interesting car.

If your looking for a frugal car that can at least be taken on the motorway, then something diesel with a Bosche pump for taking used cooking oil or something would have been better, I think Cavettes Emporium of Shite cars has a Peugeot 306 estate in stock which I reckon would have been better for motorway travel but being frugal at the same time.

Someone find a rear photo. They have the funniest back door pipe ever. Looks like a cocktail stick stuck in a satsuma.

Gr8.

You haven't driven a 903cc Yugo!!!!

There's a Perodua near work, covered in dents, and bits missing, obviously despised by its owner!

Just had a quick look at the Perodua website and discovered there's something called a Perodua Viva!!
