We got the dipped beam, seatbelts and screen wash squared up and sorted today.

Off for an MOT soon, then ebay unless any A.S. member fancies parting with life savingses.

Aye. New not OEM wiring to the rescue.

Roll on MoT so we can get shot of the thing.

Looks a bargain motor for 1500 quid, the older ones seem to be less prone to rot than the later ones and I love the 70s styling of the clubman.

Yeah, on speaking to a Mini eggspurt, I was informed that the later they were built, the thinner the steel got / the more rot you get.

You see A LOT of 90s Minis absolutely hanging. Even with low mileage.

Shoot for early if youre buying one it seems!

Remember the pics I was showing you of a mates mates 50th Anniversary Sportpack Cooper.

Fucked, everywhere. As is the norm.

Well, not great, but not too bad.

Ball joints, track rod end, and the drum brakes setting up.

I imagine it's not often you see a fail sheet for a 70s Mini with no mention of corrosion.

Good result for a 70s example, like you say.  I have a '75 and if you keep on top of the jobs, they are relatively painless* to keep legal :D You've already won because there's no rust points!

Check the steering rack U-bolts are tight on the nearside of the toeboard before you start thinking about another rack.

Wow. I'm in awe. I've never had an MOT fail with DANGEROUS written on it. As you say though, no corrosion woes is very odd. And lovely.

That's not too bad. Is writing dangerous a new thing the DVLA machine does automatically now?

Posted

I think it might just be because Danger, is my middle name.

TBH even with all these points fixed, just driving a 1976 Mini is pretty dangerous these days.

That isn't awful at all really. Not mega fix stuff by any stretch of the imagination!
