If you like a P6 you're gonna hate East Enders

just reading more about this. If Phils thrown through the windscreen why did they cut the roof off?

Because things shown on the telly mustn't make sense. Or have you ever seen anything that does?

Ah thanks for clearing that up. An ex girlfriend’s dad had a P6 3500 and and a Triumph 2000, oddly enough (both long since scrapped/broken up) the Triumph was lovely and smooth and quiet, where I always though the 3500 was a noisy, rough fecker which wasn’t as relaxing.

They should have had that three five fixed then, since something was terribly wrong with it.

Never known any V8 rover be rough or noisy (well only noisy in a good way!)

In P6s and P5s, an absolute joy to drive

The gearknob would shake on idle, as would the whole car. If it was stuffed, that was probably why it’s not around anymore.

Those Triumph straight sixes are one of the smoothest sounding I've ever heard. Wonderful bits of engineering and sound lovely.

I've seen my share of rough and noisy Rover V8s, but replacing the camshaft usually cures that.

Agree on the Trummy sixes, them is fuggin ace.

From memory, it did sound “cammyâ€Â.

Yeah, the old high compression V8s suffered from excessive camshaft wear if you didn't keep on top of your oil change intervals.

Not an uncommon defect and it would lead to the symptoms you describe. It would also lead to excessive fuel consumption to boot.

Shame, it was a nice car. Looked the nuts nuts in black!

2.5pi converted to run triple 2.5" SUs and a 6-2 tubular system was probably the best sounding engine I've ever heard. Reaaaaallllllyyyy didn't want the customer to have it back :-(

The Met police removed the wheel trims from their V8 P6s because under heavy acceleration/wheelspin the trim chopped the valves off.

Nah, they'd have spent too much money on fuel and maintenance to be able to afford runflats for the whole fleet.

PEDANT ALERT

when the p6 crashed in "eastenders", the driver is slumped forward and the horn is sounding (a typical film cliche, like the helicopter disappearing behind the hill to blow up)

On the p6 the horn is on the right hand stalk and you need to pull it towards you to sound it. so the driver leaning on the wheel would not sound the horn.

TAKE THAT BBC.

*do I win £5?

and every helicopter regardless of make, model, size, engine, number of rotor blades, etc. sounding like a Bell UH1

I've just watched the ending on the iplayer, what a load of crap!, It's just reminded me why I don't watch the program anymore.

Being an avid watcher of East enders, I,ve noticed that they have been using the same sound effect of a Metro pulling away for the last 20 years or so. It's usually played when someone is in the Cafe or when Phil is Feltcing Ian Beale or something.

P6 soap trivia, Corrie's Fred Gee sold his P6 (which used to appear on the program) to Kevin Webster and it was supposed to be parked behind the garage but will probably sadly need to be written out now.

Looks very much like the car that was being trailered behind the film crew with the actors in it, was the same car driven into the transit in the crash scene. Why?? It almost looks like the cut up car was used for the exploding screen shot, fire service cut the roof off, door etc, then just crashed the car to finish off the wrap!

The Triumph 6 cyl engine started life as a  Petrol/ Paraffin tractor engine.

I don't care will always be one of my favourites, my Old Fella had a MK1 and then a MK11 estate .

No one could afford to build a car of the quality of those old 2000/2500's today, I know they were quite expensive then, but what a lot of car you got for the money.

I am almost too embarrassed to say this but didn't Fred Gee raffle the P6, fraudulently or so he thought as he only sold one ticket  but Percy Sugden  ended up winning it and he sold it to the young Kevin Webster for £50 who went on to banger race it?

The same car featured in a classic Corrie moment when it rolled into a pond with Bet Lynch and Betty Turpin on board due to a faulty handbrake cable.
