It has been suggested on the Dolly's Disco thread that those shiters insane enough to own 4WD chod take to the hills, on some sort of shambolically organised trip to some lanes, somewhere, or something.

I will if you will.  Where shall we go?

I'm happy to host around here in mid-Wales (lots of campsites/hotels) or we've had an invite from the Yorkshire lot. All I'll say is can we please stick to a maximum of six vehicles. (I guess two groups could work if there is a huge demand).

Not sure what the Yorkie lanes are like, but most of the ones around here that I have in mind could be tackled by entirely stock 4x4s.

I assume they are legal.  Shall we camp oot?

In that case, FORWARD TO STUPIDNESS!

Might well be up for it. Definitely for a Yorkshire one (I can provide details of a number of non-damaging lanes in North Yorkshire and happy to lead a group)

Mid-wales may take more co-ordination for me as its 5 hours further away, although would be nice to do Strata Florida again

Tell the rest of us the date and the venue for the camping, and we'll all happily book individually and turn up for what could be called Shitefest 2013...it may not be the bespoke item that I had to unfortunately miss last year, but it'll be better than nothing.

Me please. Got a Frontera and flame proof slacks. Also shonky caravan.

CB/recovery straps et al.

I would be keen and love visiting the far flung reaches of Wales, but the fuel cost alone in the Rangie would rule me out for the timebeing and that is even if I could get Mrs B_C to sign-off my permission slip for a weekend away. Somewhere in between London and Bristol could be doable though - Wiltshire/Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire etc.

I'm sure Steve Caz would be up for offroading his Iveco again... Shitefest Live with normal car camping appeals. Wales isn't that far, is it?

^Well, you've tackled a pub car park; how much harder could a green lane be? What could possibly go wrong?

Yorks would be my preference, and there are PLENTY of excellent campsites around here - including one near Castle KruJoe, so there'll be the option to inspect his & Samba's chod stash as well.

I've done quite a few lanes with GDH before, we only do the legal ones (as defined in the latest GLASS green lane guide) and all should be manageable with stock Discos (or equivalent). Über-knobbly tyres won't be required, I've managed on standard road tyres for the last couple of years.

Agree with a maximum of 6 per group (would prefer 4 per group tbh) but we've done it before where two groups were on the same lane with a time gap in between. That worked OK.

So... "Let's Off-Choad!"

What's Will's ETA for getting Olga fit for work, Joe? Will she be fixed by, say, early to mid Sept?

Any Scottish 4x4 owning shitists fancy a play? I think there may be an undented panel on the Jeep thats feeling left out.

This does sound remarkably appealing. I would have to buy a 4x4 in the first place, but i could get something with a smidge of t&t as cheaply as possible, drive it to wales and drive it into a tree in a remote field before calling the local scrappy.and getting the train home. Sounds GR110004.6.

Plan A.

Shall we try conjurating some dates?  Mid to late August?  Living in south Oxon, I will get dry bummed for petrol in the ThirstRover whether we go Welsh or Yorky, so I'm not bothered either way.

August may be tricky regarding camping, being peak season. Wonder if Sept may be better?

OK, and maybe we will get some MUDD.

The route I would use if we went for the Yorkshire option will include mainly gravel tracks with occasional minor rocky bits. There is a also a lane with several fords on it (the wet type, not the blue oval)

if anyone is feeling adventurous there can be an option of a lane with a medium sized rock step (probably not suitable for standard RAV4 / freelander type vehicles, but we have had a standard disco on road tyres up it before)

"Mud plugging" probably won't be an option as most of the lanes in mind have a reasonably good surface, although weather depending there may be some soggy bits.

Damage is likely to be restricted to possible minor paintwork scuffs from overhanging vegetation, although I would obviously accept no responsibility if anything more serious happened. (johnf did manage to puncture a tyre on a seemingly innocuous section of track last time we did this route)

All of the above only applies if the Yorkshire option is chosen and everyone is happy for me to lead a group - perfectly happy for someone else to do it if they prefer.

If the Welsh option is chosen, I won't offer to lead a group, as although I've done a bit of laning in the area I don't have the level of local(ish) knowledge that I have of Yorkshire

YAY, sounds brill! Thanks for the phonecall last night John, we're back online now.

Will is here now, I've pointed him in this direction. The more time we give him, the greater the chance of him having Olga back on (off) the road.

..probably not suitable for standard RAV4 / freelander type vehicles...

Boo, I think I'd like to bring my £200 RAV along for a play, especially if there are some pals to drag me out of mischief!

Only playing it safe - i'd be game to try it in anything or drag anything out, but didn't want lynching if someone brought a tidy motor on what was supposed to be a non-damaging trip (the lane with the step will be optional anyhow - I have a video of me going up it in the disco the other week which I'll try and put online somehow)

Here's mine.  I have found one panel without a dent.  This cannot be allowed to continue.

is that the lane above Hawes that we did with the Landy Zone folks a couple of winters ago? If so, here's a video of the rock step section that I found on YouTube:

Edit: linky to illegal off-roading removed, replaced with an episode of Roobarb & Custard:

Yes it was that lane - however the video posted is nothing to do with us and seems to have a bit of off-piste playing in it - might be best if you remove that link John - i'll try and find a better one

It does sound extremely appealing (says the owner of a big lumbering 4x4) but finances dictate otherwise.  However!  There's no reason the lumberer couldn't go if some Shiter was prepared to invest* in it, purely for comedy value on the day.  I, of course, could take precisely no responsibility for any vehicular abuse that may occur once I let go of the key....

Unfortunately distance and lack of 4x4 means I'm out, again.

Maybe we should organize another East Anglia/South of the M6 meet again for those who can't make it?.

I spoke to Joe last night - he's currently looking into options for expanding this into a full-on Shitefest / 4x4 event in the Yorkshire Dales... watch this space.
