Indeed, I have mostly negotiated a stunning* deal on a 1989 Ford Tempo 2.3 thingy

that was up on ebay recently.

Insurance sorted** I've been dry-bummed by British Rail for train tickets to Northern land, Buick up on ebay for 99p, all set for Sundays epic car fetching trip!

*I was desperate after the buick shat its brakes out, so offered way too much for it.

**Sureterm Direct declined to insure it as its an imported american car, hold on a minute dickheads! What have I driven and insured with you for the last 4 years??

"ooh erm thats a good question.." thats me switched to Adrian flux then bitches....

Moar details and pics soon!

Adrian Flux tried to screw me for insurance when I switched from a Yank to a Brit.  I had a LHD, US market grand Voyager (1993 model) and when I sold it, they told me that they wanted an extra £150 to switch to a Rover 820 - and that there would be no refund if I cancelled.

I called back the next day, spoke to someone different and get a £150 refund for switching to the Rover.

First time dealing with flux and they we're very helpful. Sureterm on the other hand....

i can't help it. I've developed a real soft spot for bottom-feeding yank tat.

Maybe I've just seen two many Hollywood films, but I always just think Yank cars of that ilk look so "disposable".

Great buy!

I can't believe I'm already old enough to remember when these were launched.

I considered them bona fide Futureshite back then and have rarely in life been proven so right.

Now up the ante with a Taurus Wagon as a stablemate.

Sarah's rental car.

"It's that thingy there..."

If you sell I may be interested.

You need a Yugo Tempo to keep it company.

Hateful, dismal and probably awful to own.

Therefore WINNAR, and congratulations. Or commiserations.

That is thunderously shit. Great work! I would love to have a shot in it.

Amazingly awful, especially knowing that there is a little bit of Mk.III Escort underneath the Yank bodywork ! I am truly jealous !

Looks like a dystopian Sierra Sapphire. I love it! :D

It's a crossed eyed Hyundai Stellar, the MkVII Cortina of my dreams*

Good work!

7 hours, 4 trains, 3 red bulls, 16 piss stops, it's finally back!

The journey started at

and via pedolino train we got to see

a shite power station at Rugley,

then arrived at

paid £10.34 for 2 sandwiches and some water!!!

another pedolooniunm train to

Then the real fun began, a mad dash across the platforms to jump onto a proper retro class 150 DMU. A real timewarp boneshaker with a roaring diesel engine right underneath us. Beige laminate everywhere. Lovely. Unfortunately the locals on their way to the dole office/Jeremy Kyle studio didn't look very photogenic so no shots sadly. Anyway, the crock of shit got us to

Half an hour here before the next train so we wandered up to the pound shop for some awful energy drinks.

Then a class 150/2 to the final destination

The owner of the Tempo picked us up is his Merc M class. Back at his house the mighty Ford was waiting, I tossed my Ray-Bon Woofairers onto the dash and signed the V5. We sadly couldn't stop for a brew as it was now 15.40. Me and the wife jumped in and headed south. The initial impressions are very very favourable, its covered 37000 km (26k miles?) from new and still feels "tight", its like a new car compared to the Buick it replaced. 12 months ticket and ready to go. Just a bit of seagull shit damage to the roof and thats it, in total, no other faults to point out. (yet)

Stopped at Stafford services to shed the pound shop energy* "drink" and buy donuts. First look under the hood;

you can see here how small it really is compared to the space its in, it surprised me. Mkv Cortina/Mk1 Orion is the best way I  can describe it. Very similar in drive style too.

MInt! (both seats have electric lumbar etc, fully loaded throughout only the A/C seems to be a bit dicky.)

engine shots and more Ford porn tommorow. I may even put it up on a ramp at work....

Fabolous. I have loved these since my Uncle Sam brought me a Canadian Auto Trader over from Canada in 1989 as it was full of them and the earier Sierra-like one.

I really do think that from about 1979 onwards the Americans really knew how to build (future) shite and I loved the way that every model year they just hammered a slightly smaller version over the old one, just like the Tempo.

Is it me or are all the pictures upside down? I presumed because it looked like a mk4 cortina the interior would be like one too but that's more mondeo. It actually looks pretty plush.

Posted

Yeh, but plush only in this peculiar yank sort of way. It looks like a 1972 bordello in Louisiana. Fuggin ace.

That's wonderful, I can see a bit of Toyota Camry style in the rear end around the tail lights.

You are truly living the dream - can we have some driving impressions, dap of oppo etc?
