My favourite conspiracy theory is that most conspiracy theories are propagated by the government (or whoever). That way whenever someone raises legitimate questions about 'the official story', they will be ignored as just another 'JFK did 9/11' conspiritard.

I agree re this particular story most likely being bollocks.

I posted it because I think that the possibility to mess people about in such a sort of way either exists already or will in the very near future.

Actual scientists have actually proven it's actually possible. It took 10 clever people 2 years, but all it would take is one criminal gang to produce a "toolkit" to sell on for a couple of grand, and you have your reason to develop something on the black market.

 

The other way, which a different MIT review mentions, is that if you have some sort of remote tracking/disabling device like OnStar you can just socially engineer the call centre - "Hello, yes, this is Mr Smith - my car has been stolen! Please shut it down immediately".

I wish the FBI would of looked at the electrics on my Laguna II there is no way with all of their skills could they sort out the electrics on a IDE engine to get it started let alone worry about it stopping.

 

You would need a NASA budget and a team of top scientists to sort out the ECU and the fuel pressure regulator on a Renault, and even if it would start you just know the springs would snap and the windows would fall out the runners.
