What cars are on your 'to own' list?......

Pre facelift Rover sd1. I don't care what colour or engine size I just want one.lol.

The top two on mine right now are a late 3.0 V6 Citroen XM or a Citroen C6. Twice recently I've seen a C6 and been filled with the desire to buy one that lasts until I go on to the owners' forum and read about what an expensive nightmare a bad one can be. That puts me off, until the next time I see one.

I have a much longer list of "stuff I'd like to borrow for a month or so", though. Thinking about it, those are mostly Citroens too.

Let's see

Lancia thema

That will do for today.

Mk5 Cortina

Being somewhat ancient, my list is very short as I've pretty much done my list already, so the ones I haven't had yet:

Bristol 407

Morris Minor Traveller.

There are other cars I want but as I'm a creature of habit I've already had them before:

Series Land Rover (a station wagon as the canvas tops, which I prefer, are not really Spaniel proof)

Volvo Amazon estate

Volvo 240 estate (I already miss the one I got rid of about 2 months ago)

Austin A40 Dorset Tourer (not much chance unless I import one as I think there are now only two in the UK and I've owned both of those before)

Morgan Plus 4 Drophead Coupé

My current wish list is:

Something that I can go to Curborough Sprint Course/other track days to, have a giggle in and not worry about the cost of spare parts.

This is why I have Ford Puma at the top of my list, not overly exciting, but a good thing in which to learn where my limits are.

Failing that I will also consider anything light weight, nippy and not to powerful, e.g.

Suzuki Ignis sport

Porsche 924

Peugeot 106 GTi/Rally

and others of similar idea...

Very high on my to own list is a Primrose Yellow Rover 75. These are very very rare with only about 180 released to the UK market. They look fantastic and there is one owned locally, its not a minter but I have to stop and help clear up the latest yogurt lorry crash every time I see it.

One day it'll come up for sale and it'll be when im going through a poor month with no monies !!

Here is the said car parked on my manor last October

I really want a large American car made between 1956 and 1973 ( approx ) not so fussy as to what, I like most of them but some favourites are

1957 Buick Electra

1959 Chevrolet Impala

Not so keen on the Ford products though, they all seem a bit ugly ( Mercury and Lincoln included ) Mostly

Also I really want a Commer camper with a factory body, not one of those poxy hermit crap type things with the huge bodies

And I keep promising myself a V8 in my collection, an SD1 Vitesse would do nicely and distract me from yanks for now

Posted

1959 was a good year for the Electra too.  57 would be a Special, Super or Roadmaster.  I kind of approve of your choices there, except that, the more people like and want these things, the higher the prices climb and the 1962 Cadillac I treated myself to in 2008 will remain the closest I ever get.

Maybe I meant `59 then....

I know the shape I want, I had a model as a kid and still think  it is the best looking car ever. ( made by Husky )   Best fins ever. 59 Caddies too silly but they were much better by `62 :)

My Standard Pennant reminds me of a tiny 50s yank, I have been looking for a visor to keep the look

Posted

If you're working from the Husky model (of which I have two or three still) then yes, it's a 59.  Good choice!  I presume the Impala love comes from the Corgi model?

And yes, bravo on the Pennant, a visor will just nicely set it off.  I think they were rather pretty and certainly under-rated.

One of these aswell!

But I've got one of these!!

Posted

Another Ventora FD Flavour, but FE is goodly also

Daimler DS Hearse

Huggy bear spec Lincoln Continental with huge velour armchairs

BX 16V GTI

Rat rod

Bentley of any age - just to say Ive had one

Jag XJR

Something with a cannon on it

all humble stuff really

Posted

Still got quite a few to work off the list...

Jaguar/Daimler XJ40

Austin/Morris A60

Citroen XM

Citroen 2CV

Seat Marbella

Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3 1.7TD Envoy (purely for sentimental reasons)

Rover P6 3500

Range Rover Classic

Sao Penza

Not likely to get many of those struck off the list any time soon though!

Don`t think I have seen the corgi model, I just think it one of the prettiest cars ever. The El Camino based on it would be fine for me too

Rover P-anything

Crown Vic

Chevy Caprice

Lincoln Continental (the suicide doors one)

P38 Range Rover

Maserati Ghibli

Volvo 262 (but with some ridiculous engine conversion)

This is the list which is currently unattainable, the full list can be summarised as 'anything pre-1990 which is even marginally interesting'.

Got a bit of a thing for VAG shite myself...

Top of the list...

  • Porsche 924 (the "van engine" kind)

Somewhere further down the list..

  • VW Type 3 Fastback (one that hasn't been buggered about with by pineapple-botherers too much, if any exist)

Rather more fanciful...

  • Dolomite Sprint (maybe 1850HL at a pinch)
  • Scimitar GTE (probably SE5A)
  • Beetle 1303S/LS
  • Type 34 Karmann Ghia
  • Sunbeam Stiletto/Singer Chamois
  • Midas Bronze/Gold kit-car (though I doubt I'd actually fit inside)

Very fanciful...

  • VW 411/412 Fastback

And if I was feeling particularly flush...

  • Porsche 968 (no need for a CS, vanilla version quite fast enough for me)

A VW Golf. To see if I can do 140 without getting busted.

A W124 Mercedes-Benz, hopefully a wagon.

I do have a hankering for something with the engine in backwards.

A beat-up ol' Ford truuuck.

A Sterling Oxford edition, i.e. a posh Honda.

And a posh lorry.

X1/9

X-type Jag

'27 T Coupe hot rod

a late '70s Yamaha XS650

The cars I grew up with are now well out of my price range and will never own one. For example

Mk2 escort,mk2 granada,mk4/5 cortina and Rover sd1 so my choices have changed.

Would like a mk3 cavalier top spec model but diesel engine and a v6 could be fun

Fiat multipla bug eye

Volvo 240

Volvo 740 turbo

Early omega

Citroen xantia

Peugeot 605 but may have to settle for a 405!

VW Polo G40

Saab Convertable.

Lancia Delta Integale

Mercedes G Classe

Ford Street Ka.

Breadvan, you have a lot to answer for! A Jensen Fabboceptor has now displaced the Jaguar XJS from the top of bucket list, and that was one that had had approval from The Management. Otherwise an Alfa Bertone GTV from the early 70s, Fiat Panda 4x4 (original flavour, but I wouldn't say no to a later one) a larger 4xShite (Disco 2 or P38 RR seem to loom large) and a 50s classic (Sunbeam Talbot 90 would do nicely)

Less likely to achieve are the Bedford OB and Dodge Spacevan (qv The Management) and the Swallow Doretti; they were made only just up the road by men in a large shed (aircraft hanger) but only come up for sale every other decade :(

Interesting to look back; the list is still very much the same as two years ago, except that the 4xShite of choice is now a white Toyota Landcruiser with UN written on the doors. So far none of been ticked off , but I missed a local  one-owner 1989 Panda (although not 4x4) by hours :( and have sat in a Swallow Doretti which was actually parked outside the shed* in which they were made, but none have come up for sale though.

How has everyone else got on with their list?
