Oh no, not again!

So when I sold my last Xantia to Lacquer Peel of this forum, I decided that it was time to draw a line under that particular breed of Gallic shite. I moved on to a lowish mileage Xsara Hdi, which although very capable in some aspects, is duller than a bucket of wallpaper paste.

Now I wasn't looking for another car at this time as I've arranged to trial a C5 hatchback that is due in at work soon, so when one of Wifey's friends came knocking with the offer of her parent's Xantia estate, I only enquired out of politeness, as you do really.

The next day she visited with her mother whilst I was at my weakest point, in the garage whilst the wife was at work, I was instructed to pop round later that day to have a look at the car, and that was an invite I knew I shouldn't turn down!

Well you know how these things are, the car pretty much followed me home (only after they'd washed it for me though!)

Here it is in all it's glory, Snowy 2:

I have no idea how the net thing fits in anywhere, does anyone have any ideas?

She's done around 86k, and is in dire need of some rear spheres as well as the front pads & discs.

A full road test report will come once I have attended those issues...

I have no sympathy with you.

Nobody is forcing you to buy French vehicles, it's a self-inflicted wound and hence entirely your own fault.

But if it helps, I think a less addictive (but still harmful) substance can be obtained by typing "Alfa Romeo" into an online auction search engine.

Well, it would have been rude not to. But what of that C5 hatch when it turns up?

Posted

Well therein lies the problem, I suspect secretly, the because it's not an estate, it will feel like a temporary car rather than long term...

I have looked at Alfa Romeos, but my budget only stretches to ones you can sweep up in a dustpan... and in some cases not even that far!

Just say no kids. Or, like me, don't...

That netty thing looks like some sort of dog guard.

Well I've already 2 kids, so I'm a bit late for all that! I agree with the dog guard theory, but I've no idea how it fits!

Ok so I've found a little time to progress on this one, so far I've treated it to some new rear spheres and rebuilt the front brakes, it's pretty tidy underneath, but it's clear it hasn't been to a Citroen versed garage in a while!

They certainly have had their money's worth:

The pads landed courtesy of ebay, 99p plus postage for a brand new set, that'll do nicely. The hand brake cables were all good, so it was just a case of de scaling everything and greasing before reassembly:

In other news, the C5 is slated to arrive early next month so this one is probably a short term thing.

Looks OK to me, is it a dizzler?

Are there not flaps above the side windows that open up to reveal mounting points for a cargo net? I'm sure I remember them from when I had my Xantia estate.

A small bowl of petunias, and a sperm whale were not involved in this thread at all. Until now.

Err? does anyone speak Albert?

I think Albert's quote is referring to hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy ... the inifinite improbability drive.

Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again
