Rover 75 anyone?

OK, I bought this recently and the plan was to run it around for a few days to make sure it wasn't about to chuck its toys out of the pram and then induct it into the fleet as a waft-o-matic barge - once the Stagea goes, which should be happening imminently, I wouldn't have a roadworthy auto in the fleet otherwise.

Unfortunately, the impending loss of my garage means that it now has to go. I have indeed run it around for a few days and it hasn't made any worrying noises or started guzzling / spewing out its vital fluids, which is good. Oil is nice and clean and the temp gauge is rock steady at just under half.

It's a 2.5 V6 auto Classic - I'm not sure where the Classic comes in the range but it must be somewhere near the bottom as it has velour seats and keep fit rear windows. The interior is still a nice place to sit though, and pretty clean for its age, although it's been fitted with a slightly tacky aftermarket CD player which doesn't do it any favours.

It's a bit different to drive than my old 2.0 manual which I sold to Skizzer - the 2.5 has a fair bit more low-down grunt which, coupled with the 5-speed auto 'box, makes it even more relaxing to drive. It also really does go quite hard when you floor it.

The bodywork is generally fairly good - unfortunately some little twerp has put a key scratch across the boot lid and a smaller scratch on the nsr wing, but other than that it's tidy enough, albeit not immaculate.

Only faults I've found so far are the nsf tyre is very borderline (this will be replaced with a part-worn before sale), the aircon compressor is noisy when the a/c is switched on, and there's a slight drip of oil from somewhere (presumably a rocker cover gasket, but I haven't taken the plastic cover off to investigate) onto the exhaust, so you get the occasional whiff of hot oil when coming to a stop - it is only slight though, and the oil level on the dipstick hasn't budged. Oh , and the airbag light stays on.

It's tested until February next year and taxed until the end of this month; mileage is just over 100K. Here's some pitchers:

Is £450 too much?

surely £450 is under selling it! bargain, and imho these are great cars, highly underrated and will genuinely be classics one day

That looks ace! Always had an itch for these cars, had I not too many vehicles I'd be all over this.

Lovely car, shame it hasn't got moo, but not the end of the world. These were almost more Jaguar-like in my eyes. Tempted if I could sell the Toledo.

Lovely car, shame it hasn't got moo

Moo, wind and tree were only on the higher spec ones.

Not sure if it's real wood or not, but moo, wind and plastic sounds like a messy picnic afternoon.

Club, Club SE, Classic, Con a sewer was the top spec with Con a sewer SE too possibly/maybe/may have imagined this one. Club or Classic had air IIRC but slightly different versions. Now where's that anorak.

Sorry spelling Connoisseur was way too tedious.

Still, all lovely, lovely cars.

I rather fancy one of these, but for practical reasons can't scratch that itch at the moment. By the time I can, there'll be about four left in the world and prices will have adjusted accordingly. :( This does look like a damn good deal.

if it twas a con a sewer and doozil I would bite yer arm off but the excitement I felt when I saw the title faded as quickly at the though of OMGV6HGFx2.

The line up was

Classic

Classic SE

Club

Club SE

Connoisseur

Connoisseur SE

Club upwards gained digital aircon and rear electric windows plus higher grade cloth seats etc etc

Connoisseur gained leather and Chrome mirrors etc etc

That car was given the addition of alloy wheels over the standard hubcaps.Looks a lovely car for the money

I'll mention this to my dad as his 75 has just expired. I know he wanted a Connoisseur though, and doesn't like silver

If it was a diesel Connoisseur it wouldn't be £450.

Just been into Norwich in it and wasted a 1.8 Turbo A3 in a traffic light GP. Childish but fun. It actually seems to be doing about the same mpg as the 2-litre, despite being bigger and an auto - although I suppose the auto 'box being a five-speeder helps. It's actually quite a nice 'box to use - it feels a bit like the Aisin-Warner jobbie in the V6 Laguna, except the Rover's 'box doesn't have a death rattle and the kickdown works properly.

Someone please buy it off me before I decide I want to keep it...

There's a Polish bloke at work who is a proper Rover fanatic, I'll let him know about this! I think I ought to point him to the forum too, his favourite ever car was a Rover 620i !

I'm out this time, but thoroughly endorse from first-hand experience the wisdom of buying a Rover 75 from Wuvvum.

I would absolutely love to own one of these one day.

Yours is a Classic SE with the 'Contour' alloys and is also an early Cowley (?) built one as it has black sills.

The Club spec is by no means pauvre and has decent dash and seats, not your usual entry level model grey plastic.

It’s a V6-fuckticks! Too thirsty for me, and I’d like a silver one. That’s looks tidy as well, and you don’t see many Cowley made ones around now.

A lot of 75s seem to have the problem of the air bags going wrong, or the light coming on anyway. And IMO, I’d say you’re asking too little for it! I’d say about £700-800.
