I like them. I've driven the 1.8 pez, which was potless and a 1.9td I thought was quite brisk at the time. I'd like a v6 or a 2.0 active.

Citroen BX by Micrashed, on Flickr

My old one.

Reliable, had a DRAGON tuning box fitted (which I tucked away in a poly bag next to the battery to keep it dry) which I cranked up to about 100bhp ish (more than that resulted in clutch slip when booting it) A very effective tow car.

Usual HP Citroen foibles coupled with Bitron unit PHAILIURE seem to be the main issues - some also have issues with the strut tops rusting out leading to the struts making a bid for freedom through the bonnet.

I'd have another in a heartbeat.

I think they are fuggin ace. I really regret scrapping mine when I switched to 2 wheels to save money on fuel. The car was GR9.5. Shall defo have another.

Buggertion.

Im now looking at Autotrader at them myself - the upper towing weight is 1500kgs which is the upper limit of my caravan - I had plain forgotten that.

5 seats,

Self leveling suspension.

Diesel.

Stupidly cheap

Probably a more sensible bet than a naffing Fronterror.

Maybe one for the stupid question thread, but does anyone know what the autoboxes are like on the TD Xantia's?

I may have to consider one for my next slushmatic daily.

For me the most underrated car ever - I loved my TD SX estate, only got rid because I was starting a new job and 2nd gear had started to crunch.

As mentioned before bitron sensor can be a PITA, so too can the electric fans which seize up and usually take the wiring with them. This was the case on mine, one had failed, had an auto spark wire the good one up to a switch on the dash. Fans are immensely powerful - one good one will keep the engine cool (I have two of the things which at some point I will fit to my SD1 so I can get rid of the viscous fan).

If you are not doing the spannering yourself go on FCF (cracking bunch), they will offer advice, look for a good citroen specialist. Beware though - some of them almost charge main dealer rates. When I had mine I used to take it to a guy in Widnes who worked on citroens all his life, he has now retired but he bought my Xantia when I got my MK3 Mondeo in '09 - he still has the car now. He charged me £300 for water pump / cambelt and pads / discs on the front.

Take the plunge, I am sure you will not regret it.

As long s the oil and filter has been looked after and it hasnt been used to tow the Queen Mary across the land they are quite robust.

Nah the autos are a bit shit tbh, We've one in the field at work if you fancy stumping up for a replacement box for it? Full leather too...

On the mk2s, watch out for rotten sills towards the back, and also have a good look at the pipe work, I mean underneath with a torch and a mirror as they are prone to bursting above the axle where you can't see them, and it's a massive job to replace them properly.

Good cars, but don't stop at a junction while the driver of the modern VAG TDi behind you is texting or something.

RG - it wouldn't happen to be a diesel with a dead autobox you have there would it? If so can I get more details, I may have a cunning plan :D

Make sure the heater matrix isn't leaking. This is the part they hang from the factory ceiling, then build the rest of the car around. Fix = dash out, or cut hole in bulkhead...

Apparently with a bit of practice, you can get this job down to about 8 hrs!

110 HDis have hydraulically controlled clutch (not part of main HP system) so no plastic clip malarky to piss about with.

Looks nice,, but Im sure as eggs is eggs that this is wearing the wrong wheels - it looks like its got 14's on and not 15's. Which makes me a bit suspish about the rest of the car really.
